The role of Cassie Lang has been recast for the recently named Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, with Freaky star Kathryn Newton taking over from Emma Fuhrmann. Paul Rudd's miniature-sized hero will get a third standalone adventure with Quantumania, which will also see the return of Evangeline Lilly's Hope van Dyne, aka the Wasp. Peyton Reed is returning to direct the undated movie, which is also confirmed to be introducing Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) to the MCU. Additionally, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer will reprise their roles from the previous Ant-Man movies.

Cassie Lang, Scott's daughter, has been a vital part of his arc throughout the MCU. For the first two Ant-Man movies, the ever supportive and bubbly Cassie was played by Abby Ryder Fortsen. However, the character soon received quite the change up during Avengers: Endgame, which saw her age five years while Scott was trapped in the Quantum Realm. By that point, Fuhrmann stepped into the role, and it looked like she would return for Ant-Man 3. However, that is no longer the case.

In the middle of the Marvel portion of Disney's Investor Day event, MCU mastermind Kevin Feige revealed Kathryn Newton will be taking over the part of Cassie for Quantumania. He gave no reason for why Furhmann is out, nor did he share whether Cassie will assume her hero persona of Stature in the film. The other Ant-Man 3 news given during the presentation was the film's full title and Majors' confirmation as the comics villain Kang.

Newton has steadily amassed some notable credits over the years, with her breakout role coming in the 2018 comedy Blockers. Beyond that, she's best known for her parts in Pokemon Detective Pikachu and television shows like The Society and Supernatural. To date, Quantumania is poised to be her biggest role, particularly because it could lead to more appearances down the line. Marvel has been gradually accumulating young heroes, seemingly for a Young Avengers project, and Cassie could easily join the team when she becomes Stature.

Quantumania still does not have a release date, though Pfeiffer recently revealed production is expected to begin in the spring of 2021. Therefore, there's a chance it could premiere in late 2022, or perhaps even early 2023. That means fans have some time to wrap their heads around getting a new Cassie in the MCU. Newton is a talented actress, and there's no doubt she'll do wonderfully in the role. Hopefully, she'll even get the chance to suit up alongside her superhero dad. Now that would be quite exciting.
