Netflix prepares for a new outer space adventure with the full trailer for the upcoming sci-fi series Another Life. The streaming giant’s latest foray into science fiction brings Katee Sackhoff back to space as well, as she’s likely best remembered for her portrayal as the fearless pilot Starbuck in Ron D. Moore’s reboot of the classic sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica. Of course, this is not Sackhoff’s first time back in the unforgiving reaches of space, as she also joined Vin Diesel in Riddick in 2013, and she has also lent her voice to Star Wars: The Clone Wars

But unlike the other programs, Another Life puts Sackhoff in a starring role, this time as the very TV named spacecraft pilot Niko Breckenridge, who is assigned to lead a potentially dangerous mission investigating the origins of a mysterious alien artifact that landed on Earth months earlier. Complicating Niko’s mission is an unruly crew of CW-ish actors (including Tyler Hoechlin, The CW’s own Superman), as well as the husband (Justin Chatwin) and daughter (Lina Renna) she left behind back home. But that’s just part of the story, as Niko’s journey will be fraught with danger at every turn, as she struggles not only to complete her mission, but to return home safely to see her family again.

While the first teaser trailer for Another Life played up the show’s seemingly creepy atmosphere, the full trailer is more about the work-life balance facing Niko, as well as the life-altering event of an extraterrestrial civilization making first contact with humankind. The trailer also plays up Selma Blair’s role as Harper Glass, a media personality caught up in the world-wide event, but mainly it seems intent on establishing the series’ science fiction bona fides. There are plenty of influences on hand in the full trailer, suggesting Another Life will have pieces of everything from Independence Day to Arrival to Interstellar in its DNA. Whether or not that will add up to a show worth bingeing remains to be seen, but thankfully viewers won’t have long to wait to find out.

Another Life has the chance to be a mid-summer hit for Netflix, one that comes just a few weeks after the world binged Stranger Things 3. While most subscribers will likely be on their second or third re-watch of that series, Sackhoff’s return to space may be enough to get some to give the kids from Hawkins a break.
