At Sony's Summer State of Play, they announced a remake of the ever popular The Last of Us that will be the "definitive version" of the game, as well as giving us a tiny sneak peek into the HBO show set to air later this year. The beloved game gave many things for players to remember for a long time, such as complex characters, a compelling storyline, effective gameplay, and many nerve-wracking enemy encounters.

However, The Last of Us has frustrated players with how annoying the infected can be, and they're not the only game. Some annoying and hostile NPC creatures, according to Redditors, include those that run faster than the player, come in hordes, explode, and fly, among other characteristics.

All the Infected - The Last Of Us

deleted user commented "Pretty much all the Infected in The Last of Us. Clickers are ridiculously creepy and scary, but the worst is getting killed by a Bloater. My jaw actually hurt a bit when I saw that." It doesn't matter if there are runners, stalkers, clickers, or bloaters, in The Last of Us every encounter makes players be on the edge of their seats.

After dying multiple times because of an unsuccessful sneak that got clickers to run towards the player with all of their infected friends, these encounters are enough to make any gamer throw a tantrum. But feeling annoyed can only be added to the list of emotions the game causes after suspense, terror, sadness, and love. It is known that playing The Last of Us is a sentence to a rollercoaster of emotions, and that is why it is loved by many.

Cliff Racers - Morrowind

Redditor Semirhage commented, "I heard some people didn't appreciate Cliff racers too much." and j0nno answered "You heard right. They would follow you to the ends of the earth just to annoy you with that awful sound. Cliff racers call their buddies until you have like 15 of them on your a**"

A flying enemy is already hard to aim at and kill with a bullet, arrow, or spell. It's very annoying that they are constantly moving up and down and from side to side, but if more flying enemies are added and attack the player at the same time it is an absolute nightmare. That is why these hellish encounters have even made it to the funniest Morrowind Memes On Youtube. Every Morrowind player remembers them well.

Bats - Anywhere

Game designers from around the world seem to have agreed bats should be every game's first-level encounter and that they should be in every corner, interrupting every travel, alone or in huge groups. That is why user Maneggs said that the most annoying enemies are "Bats in any game."

Redditor Geno098 added, "Especially Zubats" and made a valid opinion, given that the Pokémon is the only one that appears over and over again throughout the whole gameplay and can ruin the experience of exploring the best regions in the game. It's not exciting to challenge the same enemy that appears to only know how to supersonic the player. Pokémon trainers just want to get somewhere without being interrupted multiple times for a two-hit battle.

Chrysalids - XCOM

Redditor Pimmelman pointed out "you have not experienced terror until you come up against the Chryssalids or its cousin the Tentaculat" and Pillagerguy added "They deal 7 damage which is an absolute truck to the face". These reasons and the fact that the Chryssalids can turn dead allies into zombies that attack the player make them an extreme pain in the neck.

It's never fun to lose weapons or soldiers to any creature, but annoyingly so, Chrysalids always find their way to do it and ruin every gamer's battles. But, as most gamers would agree, it is more infuriating when enemies kill your crew and then use them as their own companions. It is just unfair and gives them too much power.

Cazador - Fallout New Vegas

Cazador-Fallout-New-Vegas

User Left_of_Fish pointed out "Cazadors are easily the most obnoxious enemy I've ever had the misfortune to fight in a game." and this mention does not come as a surprise for most players who have suffered from the rage quits this Fallout mutated bug has caused. They check almost all the boxes of traits of annoying enemies: they fly, they attack in groups and they are fast.

Redditor newtownmail also said about them "Worst part was on hardcore they would kill your companion so easily. Any time I suspected I might face a cazador, I'd make my companion wait behind so they didn't get massacred right away." The good thing is Dogmeat, one of the best companions in gaming history, appears in Fallout 4 and can't be killed by these irritating creatures, but unfortunately, the game controllers that were thrown in tantrums for these bugs cannot be saved.

Necromorphs - Dead Space

Annoying enemies in horror games are especially nerve-wracking because of all the tension players already feel from the suspenseful atmosphere. So frustrating hostile creatures in this genre are not appreciated at all. User ledlin99 mentioned "The regenerating necromorphs in Dead Space" as his choice and added "Especially in Dead space 2. Having to stasis it and hack that machine while it's stasised. Holy hell. Talk about a rage quit."

Almost all players can agree that any enemy that can regenerate health can be the most frustrating to fight. On the other hand, the necromorphs monster design is one of the things that makes Dead Space still hold up today. So both characteristics combined in one single enemy can provoke panic and an accelerated heart-beat in any player.

Dogs - Dark Souls

Dog-Dark-Souls

User West_Tek selected "Dark souls dogs" as the most annoying enemies of all time with reason. They are fast, attack in groups, and inflict the annoying bleed buildup. Dark Souls is already a very difficult game so these encounters just make any player feel more powerless against the marvelous but deadly world of Miyazaki.

Another Redditor agreed with the mention. moogula1992 also commented "The bone wheel skeletons are my least favorite. How am I supposed to deal with captain calcium and his skeleton drag racers when I'm running on two legs???" This hilarious take on the enemies is unusual given most players end up crying in desperation instead of joking about it.

Jackal Sniper - Halo 2

Jackal-Sniper-Halo-2

There's no doubt this enemy knows how to aim and kill enemies instantly. West_Tek mentioned the "Legendary halo jackal snipers" and had many other Redditors' traumatic flashbacks triggered. Most recalled the multiple times they were killed by some unexpected shot from above, and nothing is more exasperating than having to restart a mission because of a laser that came out of nowhere.

When it comes to this enemy, there's nowhere to hide or stop to shoot any other creature. They are hidden, they are somewhere, and most players rather run for their lives when Jackal Snipers are on the field. Not knowing where an enemy is, or being aware of its position but understanding that it can easily kill anyone is a way for extreme anxiety to live rent-free on players' mental state.

Deathsquitos - Valheim

Redditor Alldaybagpipes mentioned "Deathsquitos of Valheim" and user Rievin agreed "I bet most people got surprised when a tiny little mosquito was much harder to deal with than a massive troll that shreds the forest with its attacks." and this rang true to many other players who had faced the same ridiculous death.

It is one thing to get killed by a boss, a monster, or some other vicious creature, but losing because of a flying bug it's pretty frustrating and embarrassing. It affects any player's self-esteem and makes him or her wonder how good of a gamer are they if they lose against a simple flying insect. In truth though, most players' skills have been questioned and humiliated by this enemy.

Mudcrabs - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

User pattywagon95 was pretty pissed and stated "F***ing mudcrabs I just want to fast travel dammit!" and for most Skyrim fans this opinion reflected how they had been feeling since the game was released in 2011. Mudcrabs are not the most difficult enemy by any means, but their effective camouflage and low height make players feel like they come out of nowhere.

Their small size also makes them trickier to aim at, but as the Redditor stated, when they are most irritating is when they are out of sight and players can't fast travel because there is an enemy nearby. Not fast traveling is worth it when there are places to explore or enemies to fight that offer a good amount of experience points. But not being able to do it for mudcrabs for sure enrages the most patient of Dragonborns.
