Who's In The Cast Of Annihilation?

Prepare to experience the Shimmer! Annihilation, a science fiction psychological thriller led by an impressive female cast, is about to hit theaters in the U.S., Canada, and China on February 23rd. Fans in other countries will then be able to stream Annihilation on Netflix beginning March 12th.

Written and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina), and based upon the first novel of Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation centers on a team of four women, a biologist, an anthropologist, a psychologist, and a surveyor, who enter a mysterious forbidden zone called Area X. With several world-class actors who have appeared in huge blockbusters among the cast (including the female leads of all three Thor films and two top names from Star Wars), here's a rundown where you have seen these famous faces before:

Natalie Portman as Lena

Leading the cast of Annihilation is Academy Award-winner Natalie Portman (Black Swan), who portrays Lena, a biologist. After wowing audiences as a pre-teen hitman-in-training in Leon: The Professional, the Harvard graduate has enjoyed a stellar career starring in films such as V For Vendetta, Thor, Thor: The Dark World, and Jackie. And, of course, she was Padme Amidala in the Star Wars prequels.

Oscar Isaac as Kane

Oscar Isaac plays Kane, the husband of Natalie Portman's character. Isaac previously starred in Alex Garland's Ex Machina, and appeared in numerous film roles, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, X-Men: Apocalypse (playing the titular villain), Inside Llewyn Davis, and Drive.

Tessa Thompson as Josie Radek

Tessa Thompson plays Josie Radek in Annihilation. Her star continues to rise ever since her breakthrough role as Bianca in Creed. Thompson has appeared in films like Selma and television series like Westworld, but Marvel fans know her best as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok. She will return as Valkyrie in Avengers: Infinity War.

Jennifer Jason Leigh as Dr. Ventress

The veteran actress portrays the expedition leader Dr. Ventress. Leigh has starred in dozens of films and TV series in her career, but fans know her best from Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Single White Female, and more recently The Hateful Eight and Twin Peaks.

Gina Rodriguez as Anya Thorensen

Best known as the star of Jane The Virgin on The CW, Gina Rodriguez portrays Anya Thorensen in Annihilation. Before her Golden Globe-nominated role as Jane, Rodriguez made a name for herself in the long-running soap The Bold And The Beautiful and has appeared in The Mentalist and Longmire.

Benedict Wong as Lomax

The veteran British actor of stage and screen is best known by Marvel fans as Wong in Doctor Strange, a role he is set to reprise in Avengers: Infinity War. Benedict has also appeared in sci-fi fare such The Martian, Prometheus, and Black Mirror.

Tuva Novotny - Cass Sheppard: The Swedish actress has starred in numerous films in her native country, but American audiences have seen her before as Sofi in Eat, Pray, Love.

Sonoya Mizuno - Katie: The British actress of Japanese descent memorably appeared as an android in Ex Machina. Mizuno has also had roles in La La Land, Beauty And The Beast, and soon, Crazy Rich Asians.

David Gyasi - Daniel: Best known for roles in Interstellar and Cloud Atlas, the British actor also starred in The CW's miniseries Containment.

Josh Danford - Shelley: Danford has only one major feature film credit as an actor, a role in last year's American Assassin.

Sammy Hayman - Mayer: Audiences have seen Hayman as a trench sentry in the No Man's Land sequence of Wonder Woman, which is his most notable film apperance.

John Schwab - Paramedic: Schwab has had minor roles in Kick-Ass 2 and Zero Dark Thirty, but has provided voice over for video games like The Witcher 2 and the Star Wars: Battlefront games.
