Production has officially wrapped on Warner Bros.' Annabelle 3, the latest addition to The Conjuring universe and the fourth spin-off in the supernatural franchise. Since The Conjuring's initial release, the universe has been pushing out films nearly every year. Annabelle has been one of the more terrifying entities to spawn from the series, and 2014 saw the doll receive its own stand-alone film. And while that film wasn't well received it did get a sequel in 2017's Annabelle: Creation, which was regarded as the series' first good spin-off.
Annabelle the demon-possessed doll was first introduced to audiences in 2013's The Conjuring, seen locked away in an artifact room containing the remaining pieces of Ed and Lorraine Warren's cases. The film went on to be considered the year's scariest horror film and would spawn a sequel and four spin-offs. The most recent entry is this year's The Nun, an origin story for Valek, the demon-disguised nun who battles the Warrens in The Conjuring 2.
Twitter account ConjuringFilms is reporting that production on Annabelle 3 has finally wrapped. The film was first announced during a preview event at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 by director Gary Dauberman and producer James Wan. This will be the first appearance of the devilish doll since Annabelle: Creation and it is scheduled to release next summer.
Annabelle 3 will explore what happens when the doll first arrives in Ed and Lorraine Warren's artifact room. Their daughter Judy (Captain Marvel's McKenna Grace) will experience first-hand what the doll is capable of after her supernatural specialist parents bring it home. The film also stars Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Madison Iseman, Katie Sarife, Steve Coulter, and Alison White. This will be the third entry in the Annabelle series, and the sixth installment for Warner Bros.' most successful universe.
Annabelle: Creation was an improvement from the original Annabelle project, and it is nice to see that the demon doll is still remaining relevant in The Conjuring universe with Annabelle 3. Seeing the Warrens back in action, and especially against the possessed doll in their own household should prove exciting as well. A trailer for the film is likely to arrive in the next few months, giving fans their first look at what the film has to offer. And while it is not yet known whether this film will live up to the previous entry, fans can still be excited for another addition to The Conjuring universe.
