Anna Kendrick has shared a photo of her costume as Santa Claus’s daughter from her forthcoming festive Disney comedy. The film was previously called Nicole, but her social media post indicates that a title change may also have been gifted to the project (namely, Noelle), although this has yet to be officially confirmed.
Kendrick is the star of Disney’s Nicole, which is being written and directed by Miss Congeniality screenwriter Marc Lawrence. The plot is pure feel-good fantasy, as it focuses on the Claus family itself. Santa is about to retire from his annual gift-giving excursions and expects his old job to be taken over by his son – only for the male heir to the big red suit to suffer an anxiety attack and find himself unable to fulfill the role. This leaves Santa’s responsible – but presumably reluctant – daughter (Kendrick) to gather the reindeer and hand out the presents on Christmas Eve night. No doubt, there will be plenty of heart-warming and humorous shenanigans along the way.
The film is still over two years away from its scheduled release in November 2019, but that hasn’t stopped the social-media savvy Kendrick from posting a picture that reveals her costume in the movie. You can check out the image from Kendrick’s Instagram account, below:
The visual style certainly seems to reflect the live-action festive whimsy of films like Elf and The Santa Clause, as will presumably the film itself. The fact that Kendrick is posing next to a bar indicates that it will provide some humor and references for the older members of the intended family audience though. If it does channel the spirit of the much loved Elf – which the costume certainly does – then it could be a big box office draw at theaters in 2019. Kendrick’s words of ‘It begins… NOELLE” has also led most to assume that the film will now be called Noelle as opposed to Nicole, which would obviously be the name of her character as well. This has yet to be confirmed by Disney though, at time of writing this, and some film listing pages still have it under the original title.
Other members of the cast include; Shirley MacLaine as an Elf nanny called Polly, Saturday Night Live veteran Bill Hader, Billy Eichner (American Horror Story), and Julie Hagerty (Airplane!). Kendrick herself has Pitch Perfect 3 due for release this December, and has had previous festive experience with the indie movie Happy Christmas, as well as her upcoming vocal work in the Trolls animated holiday special. With the cast and crew involved, along with Kendrick’s snarky sense of humor, it could just possibly be a future comedy Christmas classic.
