Overpowered characters are a common trope in anime where some beings possess overwhelming strength, abilities, and intelligence. On Reddit, users dish out some overpowered characters who can dominate anyone from their own universe, from One Punch Man’s Saitama to Hellsing’s Alucard.
Meruem (Hunter X Hunter)
The central power system in the anime show Hunter X Hunter is called Nen. Using this technique, beings can freely manipulate their life energy and aura, which allows them to develop Nen techniques that are unique to them as a person. Meruem, one of the main antagonists in the show and the King of the Chimera Ants, is one of the most powerful Nen users in the world of Hunter X Hunter.
By consuming other Nen users, Meruem can significantly grow his aura and gain their abilities. He can also use his Nen to gather information from other beings. The anime A Certain Scientific Accelerator features beings known as espers, who are humans that can wield powerful abilities that bend the rules of reality to their will. The show follows a Level 5 ranked esper named Accelerator who is caught in a middle of a conflict in his home Academy City.
Accelerator is considered the most powerful Level 5 esper as he can control moving objects that have magnitude and direction. That's why he can easily redirect bullets and other offensive abilities to those who send them. Redditor PudgeChub also notes that Accelerator was so strong that the writers "had to nerf him heavily at an early point in the story, and even then he was still stronger than everyone else". Surely, Accelerator can also take on anime characters from other worlds.
Alucard (Hellsing)
The anime Hellsing is named after the namesake organization that has the goal to look for and eradicate supernatural and undead beings that may put the country and queen in danger. Ironically, the organization's strongest weapon is Vampire named Alucard.
Redditor DankyPal is correct in saying that Alucard is "one of the most op characters in all of anime". Some of his powers include superhuman strength, agility, durability, and endurance. What's more, Alucard can also quickly regenerate after being damaged by enemies. He can also teleport, control the weather, fly, do hypnosis, and even shapeshift.
Grand Zeno (Dragon Ball)
There are a lot of powerful characters in the anime Dragon Ball aside from Goku. Mr. Popo, Krillin, and Piccolo are some formidable characters who can stand their ground against the Saiyan. However, the title of most powerful in the world of Dragon Ball would have to go to the supreme ruler of the multiverse, Grand Zeno.
Reddit user ClowxReed claims that he's the strongest power in the Dragon Ball universe since he poofed "a universe with no consequences". Despite looking like an adorable character due to his short stature, any being would be terrified to go against the Grand Zeno as he has the power to easily erase a being or even a universe from existence through blue balls of magical energy.
Takamachi Nanoha (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha)
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha is a great anime for viewers who want shows that are led by strong female protagonists. The show follows a girl named Takamachi Nanoha, who learns that she has the extraordinary power to wield magic. In the show, Nanoha is on a mission to gain back artifacts known as the Jewel Seeds after meeting a mage named Yuno.
Despite her lack of experience, Nanoha is a formidable magic user who particularly uses bombardment and shooting spells. On Reddit, user PseudoPhysicist says that "every major problem in the series is resolved with a giant Nuke spell from Nanoha". She's also incredibly intelligent, which allowed her create tactics that helped her overcome enemies who are supposedly more powerful than her.
Yuujirou Hanma (Baki)
Because Baki is one of those mangas that are as long as the One Piece, it has produced some impressively powerful characters. Apart from the main character Baki Hanma, his father, Yuujirou Hanma, is considered as one of the most terrifyingly powerful fighters in the anime.
A Redditor named SkekVen says that Yuujirou is "head and shoulders above even the most powerful fighters in his universe". It has also been mentioned that Yuujirou has also beaten entire armies by himself. Other fighters fear Yuujirou, as he can immediately learn any fighting technique simply by seeing it performed by other people.
Korosensei (Assassination Classroom)
The premise of Assassination Classroom is simple: 28 students need to successfully assassinate their teacher in order to prevent him from destroying the earth. However, this proves to be a Herculean task, as their teacher, Koro Sensei, is a mutant and experienced assassin who takes the form of a yellow octopus.
Because of his time as an assassin, the students, and even the world's governments, have had a hard time trying to kill him. In a Reddit thread, himynameis-_- notes that "he's stupid difficult to kill" thanks to his mutated form that granted him superhuman agility, strength, and perception.
Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
The titular character of the anime The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a student who establishes a club at school that aims to discover otherworldly beings like aliens, espers, and time-travelers. She has an eccentric personality and shows little interest in ordinary human affairs.
Unbeknownst to Haruhi, some of the members of her club are actually otherworldly beings that aim to prevent her from being bored and activating her powers. Redditor raidou_14 says that Haruhi "can destroy and create universes and alter space, time, and matter, all without even having to put in any effort". If she were to get bored and think about wiping the world from existence, she can easily do so.
Kusuo Saiki (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)
The slice of life anime The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. follows Kusuo Saiki, who is a high school student that was born with psychic powers. Despite his best efforts to hide his powers, Kusuo often finds himself in situations where he needs to put his powers to good use.
The anime does have a number of other characters who also have powers, but Kusuo's can easily overpower them. Reddit user The_Capybara_Guy highlights how Kusuo was "able to stop an extinction level meteor from hitting Earth" as he has a wide variety of powers that includes telekinesis, teleportation, shape shifting, cloning, and time travel.
Saitama (One Punch Man)
The anime One Punch Man revolves around the main character, Saitama, who is known to defeat his enemies using only one punch. But despite his power, Saitama doesn't really know the extent of his abilities and is often disappointed when he finds out that he can easily defeat his enemy with one blow.
In a Reddit thread about the most overpowered anime characters in their own universe, Redditor r4wrFox says that "the discussion should just end with Saitama" as there's no one who can really match him in the anime, yet. Even the S-Class heroes that appeared in the anime can't hold a candle against the bald hero.
