Animaniacs is officially returning for a third season on Hulu. The iconic animated series originally aired from 1993 to 1998 and the first season of the reboot premiered in November 2020, developed by Steven Spielberg and Wellesley Wild. The lovable characters, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, returned, as well as the same voice actors for the original characters. The show was already a fixture of ‘90s popular culture and has once again found its place in the zeitgeist.

Hulu announced during its Television Critics Association press tour today that the show has been renewed for a third season of ten episodes. The Disney-owned streamer also noted the first season’s overwhelming success, stating that the “series garnered the most social mentions of any Hulu Original to date over its season one opening weekend.” Hulu also confirmed that the second season of Animaniacs is already set to premiere later this year.

Although the show has maintained many of the same elements from the original, the reboot does offer some differences. The main characters have, of course, returned as zany and havoc-wreaking as ever. Two other fan favorite characters, Pinky and the Brain, are also continuing their quest for world domination in the reboot. Animaniacs has always been politically minded, and it continues to make political jokes, references to global events, all with plenty of slapstick humor. However, the reboot is more cynical with its humor, uses a wide variety of animation styles, and has put a greater emphasis on diversity and inclusivity. Knowing how well the first season of Animaniacs was received, it comes as no surprise that the show will have a third season, and that audiences still haven’t gotten enough of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot’s wacky adventures.
