The developer behind the upcoming PC game Animal Shelter Simulator has announced it will donate money to real-life animal shelters, with players getting to decide which ones. Indie sim developer Games Incubator and publisher Play Way S.A. announced the animal-raising sim back in 2020, with a playable prologue demo being released in November. Animal Shelter Simulator tasks players with caring for abused and abandoned animals by feeding, grooming and performing medical care through various mini-games, as well as finding new, loving homes for the cute critters once they’re ready for life with a human companion.

In developing Animal Shelter Simulator, Games Incubator aims to educate players on the issue of homeless animals and the great effort that real-life animal shelter workers take in both caring for these strays and ensuring that their shelter runs smoothly. Sure enough, the playable Animal Shelter Simulator: Prologue and pre-release footage for the full game see players having to locate animals in the streets, making sure they don't get into fights with other guests, and expanding their shelter and managing their existing office space as a management sim game.

In a recent post on the Animal Shelter Simulator Steam Community Page, Games Incubator has announced that it will be donating up to $2,000 to five real-life animal shelters after Animal Shelter Simulator launches sometime in the first quarter of 2022. Even better, it will let players decide which ones will be supported by allowing them to submit certain shelters to the Animal Shelter Simulator Steam Community Page between December 25 and September 1, 2022. Ten submitted shelters with the highest number of entries will then be picked for players to vote on, and the five with the most votes will receive a donation from Games Incubator once they have been contacted and verified by Animal Shelter Simulator’s development team.

Video games and charity have gone hand-in-hand over the years, through big donations from publishers and developers, as well as goodwill efforts from online streamers and esports players. Last August, 2K Games hosted a special PGA Tour 2K21 livestream event to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. That same month, the AbleGamers charity organization reached its goal of $1 million for players with disabilities under the hashtag #SpawnTogether, even gaining the support of big-name stars like Captain Marvel’s Brie Larson. That isn’t getting into impressive efforts from gaming personalities like MrBeast, who has staged massive multiplayer manhunts in games like Grand Theft Auto Online to benefit various causes.

By recognizing the real inspirations behind its gameplay, Animal Shelter Simulator is set to do a lot of good for animal shelters in 2022, while also promoting the upcoming title. Those interested in keeping up with the title's ongoing development can follow updates from the team on Steam, where the game is already available to wishlist. With an interest in promoting animal welfare, Animal Shelter Simulator could be one of the most promising games of 2022.
