When most people think of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they think of cute animals, an island paradise, and an overall fun, relaxing experience. Yet, sometimes, Animal Crossing's villagers randomly say some odd and uncomfortable things that may make players stop in their tracks.
New Horizons is one of the most popular Nintendo Switch games of 2020, with both adults and kids spending multiple hours designing a plethora of unique and creative islands, socializing with others, and earning Nook Miles. One of the highlights is engaging with upbeat animal neighbors. Even Cranky villagers are known to be sweet deep down, with most characters having cheery greetings and words of encouragement for the player. In fact, many use New Horizons as an escape from the stresses of real life, as it's a great anxiety-reducing option to immerse oneself in a colorful island getaway.
Although New Horizons is very much a kid-friendly game, certain odd phrases practically force players to screenshot and share them with the rest of the community, due to how weird and out of the blue some villager conversations can be. Granted, New Horizons isn't as raw in dialogue as previous Animal Crossing titles, but the developers have still thrown a few curveballs in there to keep players on their toes.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Bill The Duck Hoarder
It's weird enough for anyone to have over 400 ducks unless they own a farm, but for a duck to own 458 ducks? That's like the player owning 458 humans - an unsettling and just-plain-wrong notion. This sentence has to make players stop and think what in the world Bill is doing with that many ducks. Plus, fans have seen the size of villagers' houses in New Horizons, and having that many animals in such a small place is sure to warrant a visit from animal control or a psychiatrist.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Anabelle... No
It's not uncommon for villagers to try and pawn off random clothing or furniture items to the player. However, it seems pretty safe to say no one wants Anabelle's used toilet. The excited look in her eyes and closeness to the player just makes this question all the more unnerving.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Gullivarrr's Drinking Problem
Gulliver and his pirate counterpart, Gullivarrr, have been long suspected of having a drinking problem, as they constantly wash up on shore in a passed-out dazed. It seems their crew wants little to do with them once the seagull(s) finally makes contact with the communicator in New Horizons. Plus, these boys are found unconscious at least once every couple of weeks or so. Now it's clear that at least Gullivarrr engages in "partakin' of a bit o' the GOOD soda."
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Villagers Becoming Self Aware?
Many have likely seen Deli's dialogue come up with other lazy Animal Crossing villagers. Deli's self-awareness is teetering on breaking the fourth wall, and it pulls away from the game's happy immersion. It leaves the player with a kind of sad reality that their friendly animal neighbors are nothing but computer-generated bits of information and man-made graphics.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Holes For Your Body
Anchovy is already a bit of an oddball, but there should be a cardinal rule that forbids any Animal Crossing villager from using the words "your body" perhaps at all, but definitely not three times in a single letter. Anchovy's message is disturbing on multiple levels. Sure, the bird villager may just be fascinated with the fact that humans can wear pants, but using the word "holes" and "your body" so many times together is enough to make anyone uncomfortable.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Chrissy's Creepy Cellar
What was that, Chrissy? This is another somewhat common yet creepy interchange that peppy villagers have been known to say in New Horizons. Why on earth would there be screaming in Chrissy's basement? Her nonchalant quickness to correct "screaming" to "singing" and her overall cute design really has to make players wonder what kind of activities she engages in during her downtime. Looks can certainly be deceiving in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
