A newly released fan-made app for Animal Crossing: New Horizons can predict what days islands will have rain or shooting stars. Weather has always been an important aspect to keep track of in Animal Crossing, as it provides various gameplay benefits.

For example, when it rains, bugs like butterflies won't come out, but players can have the chance to fish up the legendary Coelocanth. Meteor showers allow players to make wishes when they appear in the sky, which can give star fragments on the beach the following day. Star fragments are used to craft the snazzy looking space and starry furniture series. They're also used to craft wands, which are used to change up a player's outfit at the press of a button.

This new app, called MeteoNook, predicts what days player's islands will rain or have shooting stars but with some conditions. It explains that every island has its own set weather pattern that can't be changed, also known as part of that island's "seed." As such, it requires a hefty amount of inputted data to give as accurate a prediction as possible. Users can input whether or not they had a meteor shower, rainbow, or aurora borealis on their island on certain days. The more data inputted, the more accurate the prediction will be. However, MeteoNook cannot predict what days Celeste will appear, as it states that Celeste's appearance is considered separate from the player's weather seed.

The app is developed by Twitter user Ninji, who's known in the Animal Crossing community for datamining features to be released in future updates. They've also provided information on how certain in-game mechanics work, such as the spawn rate of special NPC characters visiting islands. Some of the features they've datamined like the return of Crazy Redd and Leif did come true, but others have yet to be seen in the game, possibly suggesting what future updates could look like.

With the release of MeteoNook, players should now have an easier time trying to figure out which days are good fishing up rare fish, or when they can next expect to see shooting stars fall on their island. Having to keep track of the weather each day on the island for maximum accuracy in the data could provide a tedious challenge, but if done right, this can be an extremely useful tool for players to use when charting out when they want to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
