Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons has already featured various non-playable characters from older games, but there are a few special NPCs that players would love to see return to the Animal Crossing universe. With the game’s precedent of reintroducing old characters from the franchise versus incorporating completely new ones, it’s likely that New Horizons will feature at least a few of these NPCs at some point going forward.

The summer update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons recently released, and it confirmed than an old character is returning to the franchise. Luna, the adorable little tapir, will be available to help players visit other villages while dreaming. Luna operated the Dream Suite in New Leaf, and though the establishment won’t be available in New Horizons, all players have to do is fall asleep on a bed to begin dreaming.

The inclusion of Luna is a nostalgic throwback to the previous Animal Crossing game, and this provides hope that Nintendo will choose to include other former NPCs in future updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The only question is, what NPC should Nintendo decide to re-introduce to the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons first?

Which Old Animal Crossing NPCs Should Return In New Horizons?

katrina in animal crossing

Katrina is a mysterious cat who would come to villagers’ towns and read their fortune for a small price. While she has been featured in most Animal Crossing games, including New Leaf, so far she hasn’t been included in the newest title. There is no other character at the moment in charge of reading fortunes, and even though her prophecies very rarely came true or had much meaning, it was a cute element that could be brought back and even enhanced to make Katrina a much more interactive character. She could even provide hints about what future Animal Crossing DLC may arrive in the future!

wendell in animal crossing

Wendell is a travelling wallpaper salesman who was featured in Animal Crossing games up until City Folk, when Sahara the camel became in charge of both flooring and wallpaper. The blue walrus is often grouchy, mostly because he’s hungry, but feeding him would unlock new wallpapers. A new update could feature Wendell coming back in Animal Crossing: New Horizons with limited-edition wallpapers that players will have to work towards earning.

brewster in animal crossing

Brewster, a quiet little owl, is the mastermind behind the Roost, a quaint little café featured in a variety of Animal Crossing games, including Wild World and New Leaf. It would be exciting to see the Roost brought back to the Animal Crossing universe, especially since it could give K.K. Slider a regular place to perform.

gracie in animal crossing

Gracie was the best-dressed character in the Animal Crossing universe, and the tiny giraffe would often gift villagers different clothing items if they completed tasks for her or just got on her good side. Although she was featured in New Leaf, she’s been left out of New Horizons. It would be simple enough to re-incorporate her into the universe. Perhaps she could be responsible for dolling out limited-edition clothing or other Animal Crossing items. Or, she could run a funky clothing store that rivals the Able Sisters’ but offers a different variety of products.

There are tons of NPCs from the Animal Crossing universe that haven’t been featured in Animal Crossing: New Horizons but should, and given that Nintendo regularly updates the game, perhaps it won’t be long before some (or all) these NPCs make a return.
