Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a new DLC, the Happy Home Paradise expansion, and it gives players the ability to unlock a variety of customization options, including adding pillars and counters. There are a few steps to unlocking these new structural items, and players will need to reach a certain point in their careers before they can begin the process of getting to use pillars and counters.

The Happy Home Paradise DLC offers players the opportunity to design vacation homes for resort visitors. They are given complete freedom to design each home however they see fit, and designing more homes will unlock more options. Players will also be able to bring new features back to their main island by customizing their home, and, eventually, remodeling island resident homes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

To design an Animal Crossing vacation home, players will need to travel to the resort and speak to Lottie, then find clients and design their dream homes. Each client will have a theme in mind that players will need to work with while they're decorating. As players progress, they will unlock new customization options at each milestone. A total of 15 homes will need to be completed in the Happy Home Paradise DLC to unlock the first set of pillars and counters.

Once 15 homes have been completed, Lottie will let the players know that Niko needs help with some Animal Crossing: New Horizons DIY projects. Players can find Niko on the second floor, and, after speaking to him, they can share DIY ideas with him. The next day, Niko will bring the player to the previously designed school facility and teach them about pillars and the two different size counters available. He will then give a short quiz on the subject before ending the class, then players will have the ability to use both of these items in vacation homes. Pillars and counters are also unlocked as DIY recipes, so players can craft them and use them in their own homes.

Initially, players will have access to use a wooden pillar with three available customization options. These can be used as standalone objects or placed against partition walls to create right angles. The same natural, light, and dark wood designs are also available for counters, and there are two different sized counters to use. Later, players can unlock the simple pillar and counters, which are crafted with stone and clay, by providing Niko with the DIY materials he requests.

There are plenty of new features to explore in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC, including the addition of pillars and counters. Players will need to complete vacation homes to reach milestones in their careers. Each milestone will unlock new abilities or items to use. Once players unlock the pillars and counters, they'll be able to craft and use them in their own homes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
