Tom Nook, the infamous tanuki that runs the player's island in Animal Crossing, took quite a scare one from one devious player. Although Tom is not often one to display emotions, this fan's creative edit shows him freaking out at the sight of a doppelganger.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become a staple of popular culture even a year after its release. Many of the Animal Crossing villagers have gained their own fandoms, with several even being available as Build-A-Bear plushes. While most of the villagers are known for their eccentric personalities, one island resident has gained a darker reputation. Tom Nook, the man who initially helps the player set up shop on the island and provides them with most of their opportunities to upgrade their house and home (for a price), has been the brunt of many jokes. Plenty of players have made Tom out to be an antagonist and so they were likely taking glee in a new video showing one player getting some sweet revenge on the tanuki.

The video, posted to Reddit by sarah_azy, shows the player entering the island's Resident Services building wearing a bear cap. In doing so, sarah_azy looks a lot like Tom or his sons, Timmy and Tommy. When sarah_azy sits down, forcing Tom to come over and assist her, he's clearly quite shocked, letting loose with a few choice expletives. Of course, this portion of the video is fabricated, as Tom Nook's pre-programmed responses do not include such saucy language. However, it's still incredibly fun to watch his reaction.

Other players on Reddit seemed to be equally tickled by this video. Some referenced that Nook might think the player skinned one of his sons and wore their head as a hat in a sick act of vengeance for all of Nook Inc.'s exorbitantly high prices. Others said that Nook might think that the player is trying to assume his identity. In any case, in Animal Crossing's actual dialogue, it's likely that Tom Nook simply greeted the player as he always does, paying no mind to their unique choice of headwear.

But player's creativity expanding beyond what is possible in the game of Animal Crossing also signals that they are anxiously awaiting new content. Nintendo has been teasing new updates for Animal Crossing: New Horizons for quite a while, but there has not been any information as to when that new content will arrive or what it would contain. For now, though, it seems fans are quite content with simply torturing Tom Nook.
