Every month that passes brings a new batch of bugs and fish for players to collect in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And with June marking the beginning of Summer even more creatures will start to appear. Some of these creatures will only be available to catch for a limited amount of time so players should be mindful of what creatures are available and for how long if they are wanting to catch them all. Some fish are also only available during certain times of the day or in certain locations on the player's island.

One of the new fish available for players to catch starting in June is the Tilapia. The Tilapia is a common fish that appears frequently for five months out of the year. Because of it being such a common fish it does not sell for very many bells, but it is an essential fish to catch if the player us wanting to complete their museum's collection. Here is where players can find and catch Tilapia in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Catch Tilapia in Animal Crossing

The Tilapia fish is the most common fish between the months of June and October for the Northern Hemisphere, or December through April in the Southern Hemisphere. It can be caught by fishing in a river and can be found at any time during the day or night. Players will need to use a fishing rod in order to obtain this fish.

Tilapia sell for 800 Bells each. While not worth very many bells, their commonality makes catching them a quick way to make a few thousand bells. Players can also turn these into Blathers at the museum to fill out their collection. Upon turning the fish into the museum, Blathers will recite the following: "Wherever the waters are warm, the tilapia can be found. It is a highly adaptable river fish. They mainly feed on algae, but they will also eat larvae and dead fish— or whatever fits in their mouths. I will confess that, as a growing owlet, I similarly defined food as 'anything that fits in my beak.'"

Fish appear as different sized shadows when swimming, and the Tilapia is a medium-sized shadow or a size 3 shadow. Catching medium-size shadow fish will result in catching Tilapia more frequently.
