The first episode of Netflix sensation Squid Game has been lovingly recreated in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. A fanmade video blends the Korean drama with the Nintendo classic, showing fan-favorite Animal Crossing villagers competing against each other in the first of six life-or-death games.

Squid Game has taken the world by storm following its September release on the streaming platform. The series follows down-and-out, financially struggling people who take part in a series of children's games in the hopes of winning a huge cash prize. Unfortunately, losing a game will cost players their lives, ramping up the stakes in a fight for survival. The series has become one of the biggest Netflix shows of all time, making 2021 a prominent year for the streaming service. The company also recently purchased its first game studio in Netflix's bid to introduce games to its catalog.

YouTuber 멜로우 다이어리Mellow Diary has recreated Squid Game in Animal Crossing by mixing in-game features with some editing wizardry. The video is based on the first episode of the series, Red Light, Green Light, and shows AC characters risking -and losing - their lives in a home that mirrors the show's first play arena. Villagers including Raymond and Flurry compete to make it to the finish line without being detected by an Animal Crossing player dressed like the motion detector robot seen in the show. The finished product is both hilarious and impressive, paving the way for future Squid Game recreations.

The clever Animal Crossing video uses lots of in-game decorations, clothing, and items to bring the world of Squid Game to life. The Rice-Paddy Wall mimics the background seen in the show, as does the sand flooring. Villagers are dressed in the green tracksuits made famous by the Netflix series, while the Loft Bed with Desk item is used to replicate the bunk beds slept on by Squid Game challengers. The YouTube channel has found a following making short stories and role-plays based in Animal Crossing, and it's hoped that further Squid Game recreations are coming from the creator.

Skilled builders and designers have been using Animal Crossing: New Horizon's many tools and items to recreate not only their favorite TV scenes, but also movie moments and even other video games. The game allows for lots of creative play, limited only by the item catalog and players' imaginations. With a new Animal Crossing update coming later this year, fans can likely expect even more new additions to help aid their builds.
