New seasonal items have come to Animal Crossing: New Horizons this week for both hemispheres in honor of the winter and summer solstice. The change of seasons in Animal Crossing means new fish, bugs, items, and activities for players in their game, and with the large update that was released in November, there have been even more seasonal delights to discover in both hemispheres this year.

Occasionally throughout the year, Nook Shopping - available at the Nook Stop or through the NookPhone app - will offer seasonal items for a limited amount of time, celebrating holidays and changes of season with special offers. Celebration of the solstice carries on the tradition from the previous Animal Crossing game, where Isabelle would offer the player a unique festive item for the occasion - however, more item options are available in New Horizons and players can purchase as many as they'd like. These items differ from the recipe-based seasonal items players can craft themselves and are only available through Nook Shopping.

New solstice items were reported by Animal Crossing World this week, with the addition of two items for each hemisphere's solstice. For the Northern Hemisphere where winter solstice is approaching, players can purchase a Bathtub With Yuzu and Tangyuan. The Bathtub With Yuzu is a steamy bath full of citrus fruit perfect for warming up on a cold winter night, and Tangyuan is a food item described in Nook Shopping as a "clear, sweet soup mode of rice-flour dumplings" that is eaten to celebrate the holiday. These winter solstice items are sold alongside the two available last year in the Nook Shopping app: the Midwinter sweater and the Aurora wall. In the Southern Hemisphere where things are heating up, players will find a Maypole - a botanically decorated pole used to celebrate the season - and Sunflower Sunglasses now available for purchase. They can also still obtain the solstice items from 2020, the Sunflower Rug and Sunflower Crown.

Cultural festive items have always been a fun, seasonal highlight in Animal Crossing, adding to the decor while also providing an interesting look at how different countries celebrate. The choice to include the solstice items from previous celebrations means that players who may have missed the items during their initial availability window have another chance to add them to their catalog this year. Of course, players will only have access to half of these new items at this time depending on their hemisphere and will need to wait six months until the next solstice to obtain the others.

Whether players are filling their days building the perfect Animal Crossing Snowboys or collecting Summer Shells, extra decorations that enhance the feel of the season are always welcome in Animal Crossing: New HorizonsThese new items are sure to offer up lots of new creative opportunities for players when it comes to personalizing their island. Even though no more large updates are planned for the game, small additions like these continue to be a source of delight for players.
