With the changing of the season comes new creatures to catch and collect in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Each month brings a slew of new fish and bugs to hunt that can only be found during a certain period of time. The creatures that can be found on a player's island also differ depending on which hemisphere the player is located. For example, some creatures will only appear on a player's island during certain months for players who live in the northern hemisphere, and the same creatures won't appear until months later for players in the southern hemisphere. As well, some bugs and fish can only be found during specific times of the day and in specific locations.

For players who choose not to time travel, it can be even more rewarding when catching a bug or a fish they did not have prior. Especially if they are one that can only be found during a short window of time. One of the bugs that was recently released starting in June is the Rainbow Stag beetle. This being a new beetle for non-time-traveling players makes it more exciting to catch as it can be added to the player's museum or sold for a high price at the Nook Shop. Regardless of what the player chooses to do with the Rainbow Stag, they will have to find one first, and this beetle can be quite elusive.

Catching the Rainbow Stag in Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing New Horizons Rainbow Stag

The Rainbow Stag is only available to those in the Northern Hemisphere from June until September, and in the Southern Hemisphere from December until March. Rainbow Stags are also nocturnal bugs as they can only be found between the hours of 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. This time frame applies to both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

As for location, Rainbow Stags can be found perched on the side of trees. Players will need to have a bug net equipped, and will need to walk around their island until they spot a Rainbow Stag. If a player is running they will likely scare the beetle away. Once a Rainbow Stag has been spotted, the player will need to lightly use their joystick to tip-toe towards the bug. Once in range, the player will only have one shot to catch the beetle. If the player misses the Rainbow Stag will fly away and they will have to find another one.

If successful, the player can then add the beetle to their museum (which Blathers will surely love) or they can be sold for 6,000 Bells each making them worth catching even if they are already a part of the player's collection.
