Every month, new fish, sea creatures, and bugs become available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons depending on which hemisphere players are in. In some instances, only one hemisphere gets new critters to find and catch, but usually, players in either location can participate in any upcoming events. Additionally, both areas usually have limited-time items or recipes related to the season. For example, in July, northern hemisphere islanders can grab Summer Shells and unlock recipes for them, while southern hemisphere players can catch Snowflakes to use for crafting.

There are still some fish, bugs, and sea creatures from the past few months that will continue to be available through July in both hemispheres. For example, the Yellow Perch became available in the southern hemisphere starting in April 2022 in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and players can still catch this fish in July. Active months for any creature can be viewed in the Critterpedia via the NookPhone.

Catching critters and participating in events will help players earn Bells and unlock new items that are only available for a limited time. To get ready for the new content coming in July, players should make sure they have a fishing pole, net, and swimsuit readily available. In particular, players in the northern hemisphere should prepare to catch a lot of bugs, as there will be multiple critters added that are worth thousands of Bells.

All of the events for July 2022, except for the Bug-off, will occur at the same time in both hemispheres, so all players will be able to participate. There are six events that start in July, with one running into August in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Most of the events take place over the course of several days, but players will only have one day to participate in the Fishing Tournament and the Bug-off event.

  • Tanabata (July 1 to July 7): The Tabanata event commemorates the Starcrossed Day, or Star Festival, that’s celebrated in Japanese culture. During the event, players will be able to purchase Bamboo Grass for 3,080 Bells in the Nook Shopping app. Interacting with the Bamboo Grass will reveal a random tanzaku paper with a villager’s wish written on it. This reflects the Japanese tradition of writing a wish on tanzaku paper and hanging it from a bamboo tree.
  • Marine Day (July 8 to July 22): Marine Day is also inspired by a holiday in Japan where the ocean is celebrated. During the event, players can purchase a Ship-Wheel decoration for 1,300 Bells in the Nook Shopping app.
  • Fishing Tournament (July 9): The Fishing Tournament in Animal Crossing: New Horizons always occurs on the second Saturday in July from 9 am to 6 pm. Players can catch fish for C.J. and bring them to his booth in the town square in front of the Resident Services building. Completing the Fishing Tournament is free for the first round, then 500 Bells for each subsequent entry. Players have three minutes to earn points by catching as many fish as possible. Points can be used to redeem random prizes, such as themed furniture, clothing, or tools.
  • Le 14 Juillet (July 10 to July 20): Le 14 Juillet, or Bastille Day in English-speaking countries, marks the French Revolution, and it's celebrated with a military parade and fireworks show in Paris. To celebrate this holiday in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can purchase a Phrygian Cap in the Nook Shopping app for 880 Bells. The Phrygian Cap comes in five different colors and it represents freedom in France.
  • Cowboy Festival (July 15 to August 15): The Cowboy Festival in Animal Crossing: New Horizons celebrates a Brazilian holiday called Festa de Peão. During the event, players will be able to purchase the Rodeo-Style Springy Ride-On in the Nook Shopping app for 2,000 Bells.
  • Bug-off (July 23 in the northern hemisphere): Similar to the Fishing Tournament, the Bug-off will take place between 9 am and 6 pm, and players will need to catch critters to earn points. Players can speak to Flick in the town square to get started. Flick will award points for catching as many bugs as possible within three minutes, and they can be used to redeem random prizes.

All Seasonal Items & DIY Recipes For July 2022 In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing Everything New in July 2022 Bugs Fish Seasonal Items Summer Shell

The only seasonal items available in July 2022 come from the events, and the items can be purchased from the Nook Shopping app in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, the northern hemisphere will still be in the summer months, so players can pick up Summer Shells along the shore and use them to craft beach-themed items. New recipes can be unlocked by shooting down balloons with a slingshot and opening the presents that drop.

Similarly, southern hemisphere players can catch Snowflakes and shoot balloons down for DIY recipes. Snowflakes will appear floating around the island and can be caught using a net. Overall, northern hemisphere players will get much more new content for July 2022 in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but southern hemisphere island residents can still participate in the events and purchase seasonal items.
