Seasonal events are an important part of gameplay in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Each event contains a theme for the season it falls in, and many are only available once a year. These events offer the chance to earn DIY recipes for furniture and decorations, or the opportunity to purchase event-specific items from the Nook Shopping App. However, there are a handful of seasonal events that have not been as exciting or fun to engage in as others, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons could benefit from replacing them with something new.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now in its second year of gameplay, and relies heavily on seasonal events to keep gameplay fresh. While new events have been added for the 2021 year, like the Super Mario crossover event, others from 2020 have been spotlit for a second year. To help encourage players to participate in repeat events like May Day and International Museum Day, updates have released with new content unique to the 2021 year. This includes new mazes and prizes for May Day and a New Horizons Stamp Rally for International Museum Day.

The month of June is high and dry for seasonal events, despite being the start of summer. With a single Bug Off event on the 4th Saturday of the month, and a handful of Nook Shopping events like International Children's Day, Father's Day, and Summer Solstice, the only other event to look forward to in June is Animal Crossing's Wedding Season. From June 1 to 30, players can travel to Harv's island and take wedding-themed pictures. However, for those uninterested in a marriage-themed photo opportunity, this event can be ignored completely. Replacing Wedding Season with a beach event to kick off summer would appeal to a wider number of players, and offer the chance to get summer-themed decorations for New Horizons' islands.

Animal Crossing's Bunny Day Still Isn't Fun

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Dreaded Bunny Day Event Is Returning

Bunny Day is an Easter-themed event that happens during March or April depending on the year, and is run by the terrifying mascot NPC Zipper T. Bunny. During the 2020 Bunny Day event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players were bombarded with Bunny Day eggs all across their islands. The decorations were all egg-inspired and done in bright pastels, and the event went on for nearly two weeks. While the Bunny Day event of 2021 wasn't as long, the addition of 5 new decorations wasn't enough to make the event more enjoyable. Bunny Day could be replaced with a Flower Day celebration that focuses more on the changing seasons instead.

Arguably the worst event in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is Turkey Day. Previously known as the Harvest Festival, Turkey Day falls on the 4th Thursday of November as a way to celebrate the American Thanksgiving holiday. Because the game has an audience worldwide, creating an event that specifically caters to a holiday in America is unfairly specific to one part of the player base. Animal Crossing: New Horizons should consider reintroducing the Harvest Festival event, making it more inclusive to every player.
