The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update added a number of exciting changes to the game, such as cooking and Brewster, but it also improved villager interactions as well. Most of these major features received a prominent role in the trailers or even their own separate video. While briefly mentioned, some players might not know that the update also introduced new interactions with the villagers on their island. Periodically, fans may be visited by a resident or invited to their house for a special dialogue and a chance to earn a clothing item.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons limits 10 villagers to an island, leading many players to curate the NPCs that they invite to live with them. Each resident can have one of eight personality types, these being: Lazy, Normal, Peppy, Jock, Cranky, Snooty, Sisterly, and Smug. Animal Crossing: New Horizons now has a total of 413 characters to choose from. As such, fans tend to build special bonds with the residents they have invited and enjoy the qualities that they bring to their community. By talking to villagers in different locations, the characters will have different reactions as they describe their surroundings or island life. While most of the time these conversations are rather basic, the latest major update made Animal Crossing: New Horizons more interactive.

Occasionally when at home, villagers will visit unannounced and look around a player's room. If fans choose to spend time with their resident, they can experience some unique dialogue specific to the character. Players can also select a piece of furniture and receive a comment from the villager. A game of Hi-Low can be played with their neighbor, in which a card from one-nine is chosen and fans must choose if the second card will be higher or lower. Winning this game will net players with a new piece of clothing, randomly selected by the villager. The same mini-game can be played at their house, if invited, for the same type of reward. While at their home, fans can also be offered the chance to buy a piece of furniture on display. This can be especially useful if a villager has some of the most popular furniture in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, such as the Frozen set. These encounters may be random, but increased friendship will raise the chances.

Raising Friendship In Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0

Animal Crossing New Horizons Inviting Villagers

Players can improve their relationships with their villagers through various interactions. The first conversation each day with a specific resident will add a single point of friendship. Selling an item to them, and catching their fleas, will also increase the relationship by the same amount. The best way to become closer with a villager is by giving them a gift. Furniture items grant three relationship points, with Bugs, Fish, Flowers, and tools being the second-best options. Players should be careful of their selection, as gifting trash to villagers results in a decrease in friendship. Fans have an opportunity to gain extra points when Animal Crossing villagers celebrate their birthdays. Depending on the value and type of item given, fans can earn three to five points, with a bonus if the gift is wrapped.

Villagers are important in livening up the island and building a community. Players have many options when choosing their residents. They can have all 10 villagers of a single personality type, a balance, or invite characters based on their looks. Fans can build relationships with their island residents and discover new interactions. Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers are a major part of what makes the game so unique.
