Spring is returning in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and as usual, it's bringing a few exciting holidays for New Horizons players to celebrate. Although all of the Spring events making a return in 2022 were already included in previous years, they're nonetheless a good opportunity for new players or those who may have missed out last year to get ahold of limited-time items. On top of that, there's quite a bit of exclusive gameplay that Animal Crossing fans can only participate in during certain timeframes, such as Fishing Tourneys or Bug Offs. Here's a look at what to expect from this year's Spring celebrations in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Since announcing that no more DLC is planned for Animal Crossing: New Horizons following the release of New Horizons 2.0 and the Happy Home Paradise DLC in late 2021, Nintendo has significantly slowed down the amount of content coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As a result, holidays and other occasions generally just repeat from year to year, with only occasional slight changes in the form of which items are in circulation. Although this does at least keep the game from feeling entirely stale, it means that players who have been with New Horizons since it was first released in 2020 may not find it worthwhile to complete events that they've already played through. Still, it can make for a refreshing change of pace from the usual daily activities and tasks of New Horizons, which could help tide Animal Crossing fans over until the next game is eventually announced.

To that end, Spring 2022 follows the same pattern as last Winter's events in New Horizons, with familiar activities and items making a return without any significant change to show for it. This will make it easier for New Horizons players looking to collect every item, bug, and fish in the game to successfully finish off their collection, as having a repeating schedule makes encounters far more predictable. Though there are only a couple of significant holidays during the Spring, such as Bunny Day in April, there are still a few other important New Horizons spring and summer dates to be aware of, particularly in the case of those players just beginning their first Spring in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

March Events In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

March doesn't have any particularly large events worth noting. Still, players can celebrate a few special days by acquiring limited-time items either through Nook Shopping, the Able Sisters' shop, or DIY recipes. The first is Hinamatsuri, which occurs from February 25 to March 3 as of Animal Crossing: New Horizons' free 1.8.0 update. It introduces two items to Nook Shopping, the Blossom Lantern and Hinaningyo. π Day follows from March 1 to March 14 and, fittingly enough, adds the π Pie to Nook Shopping. Lastly, February 2021's New Horizons addition of Shamrock Day lasts through March 10 and 17 in three different regards.

As far as Nook Shopping goes, players can celebrate Shamrock Day by purchasing three holiday-themed items, the Shamrock Doorplate, Shamrock Rug, and Shamrock Soda. There's also a seasonal outfit available at the Able Sisters' shop during the week of Shamrock Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and a rare DIY recipe for the Shamrock Wand, which can be acquired by popping balloons with the slingshot tool. March is far from the only month with limited-time Nook Shopping events this Spring, though, which means that as 2022 continues, New Horizons players will have more shopping to do.

April & May 2022's Nook Shopping Event Days

The end of March 2022 in New Horizons ushers in several other seasonal events, starting with April Fools' Day on March 26, which lasts until April 1, and during which players can buy an interactive Whoopee Cushion item. The rest of April is full of many other unique Nook Shopping-exclusive holidays, including Singmogil, Prom, and Children's Day. Nature Day also occurs during this time and includes other noteworthy activities such as rare Nook Miles+ tasks and access to a unique DIY. Following shortly after in May is Mother's Day and the celebration of Cheese Rolling. It's a good reminder that Animal Crossing players should consistently check in on New Horizons' Nook Shopping app to ensure they aren't missing out on any limited-time items, especially since some of these celebrations only last for a few days.

Major Spring Holidays In New Horizons 2022

Nook Shopping events aren't the only occasions returning to the New Horizons calendar in 2022. There are quite a few major holidays that Animal Crossing players should be aware of. The most notorious of these is Bunny Day, which stirred up controversy when it first made its New Horizons debut in 2020. Many fans were frustrated that essential resources and collectibles were replaced too frequently with eggs. The backlash that followed Bunny Day 2020 prompted Nintendo to roll out a few changes to New Horizons' Spring 2021 Bunny Day. However, there's still no way to entirely prevent eggs from appearing around the island during April. New Horizons players will, unfortunately, have to patiently wait it out during Spring 2022 when it makes its return.

May Day will also come back to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in Spring 2022. It occurs during the first week of May and allows players to embark on a unique island tour, during which they must find their way through a hedge maze to meet up with the popular Animal Crossing character Rover for a prize. Lastly, the end of Spring is marked by Animal Crossing's International Museum Day, which first debuted in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as part of the Earth Day update. Blathers hosts Stamp Rallies in the island's museum at the end of May. Completing the event in each museum section will allow players to earn rewards.

Rare Seasons & Activities In April & May 2022

As far as earning rewards goes, the first Fishing Tournament of the Spring season will occur on April 9. Given how rare these events are in Animal Crossing - it happens only four times a year, once per season - it's well worth marking the date, especially for players who may not have won a Fishing Tourney in any previous seasons. The lucky Gold Trophy item in New Horizons requires at least 300 points to earn. On top of that, there are around a dozen other prizes that players can earn by trading in points to C.J. Another seasonal milestone to watch out for is the introduction of new changes to the island's environment. However, this will vary depending on which hemisphere players have their copy of New Horizons set in.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players in the Northern hemisphere will be greeted with cherry blossom season starting April 1. It only lasts a short ten days, making it all the more important to gather plenty of blossoms while they're still around. Doing so will allow players to build Animal Crossing's cherry blossom furniture series, the DIY recipes for which can be acquired by popping balloons throughout the first week of April 2022. Players in the Southern hemisphere will instead have access to maple leaf season starting mid-April, with mushroom season following throughout May.

Of course, all the Spring events are far from the only reason to log back onto Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As of the 2.0 New Horizons update, there are more daily activities to participate in than ever before, especially for those who purchased the Happy Home Paradise DLC. The changing of the seasons can make for a refreshing change of pace, though, especially when there are so many seasonal activities and festivities to celebrate in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
