A new duplication glitch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is giving players the ability to duplicate any in-game item, including what was considered the most valuable form of player currency, Nook Miles Tickets. Since this new Animal Crossing glitch was discovered, the value of tickets has dropped considerably.

Nook Miles Tickets, or NMTs, are used in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to travel to mystery islands. Players use these islands to collect resources and, more importantly, hunt for new villagers when they have an empty space on their island. The tickets have overcome Bells as the main source of Animal Crossing: New Horizons currency between players, and are now used to pay other islanders in order to get coveted villagers or excellent turnip stock market prices.

According to Twinfinite, the item glitch was posted on YouTube by a user named Blaines. Through the glitch, players can create infinite numbers of NMTs, but it's come at a great cost to the New Horizons player economy. The value of tickets has decreased drastically, as they are no longer a struggle to collect and save. Blaines has discovered quite a few Animal Crossing: New Horizons glitches, though many of them, including the video about duplicating NMTs, have been removed by Nintendo due to copyright violations. Nintendo's next step will likely be to patch out this item duplication glitch in a new game update.

This isn't the first duplication glitch to be found in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Originally, players could strategically place certain furniture items and this would cause item duplication. The glitch was limited in that it would only duplicate items which could be placed on tables in players' houses. After that glitch was patched out, another one was discovered soon after, this one using the in-game mail system to create duplicate items. This was, again, apparently limited only to certain items, but Blaines was able to use this glitch to duplicate NMTs.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons player economy has become a cut-throat world of villager exploitation and high cost trading. Players have gone as far as to set up a website for people to post the items or villagers they have or want, and the price they are willing to pay for them, ranging from millions of Bells to rare items to the semi-rare Nook Miles Tickets. However, this new item duplication glitch is making it easy for players to get NMTs, and therefore is destroying their worth in the intense economy that has been created. Nintendo will patch the glitch sooner rather than later, of course, but it's hard to tell whether it will ruin the Animal Crossing: New Horizons economy permanently.
