The island simulator Animal Crossing: New Horizons is finally expanding its hairstyle options to be more inclusive for its huge audience. Although this is a feature that should have been implemented since the game's release, the welcomed new update is better late than never, allowing more users to be more widely represented in a game that's all about customization.

The Animal Crossing series has come a long way as far as being more open-minded with race and gender. Players used to receive snide remarks from NPCs for being a male wearing women's clothes, for example. Even in the previous title Animal Crossing: New Leaf, players wanting darker skin tones for the longest time had to make due with an awkward tanning mechanic instead of just having the option to choose an appropriate hue like they can do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There is still a lot for Nintendo and video games in general to do to make their audience feel more included, but this is a step in the right direction.

The New Horizons winter update trailer dropped the exciting announcement informing players that, in addition to new holiday events and items coming later this month and in December, players will now have new hair styles, Reactions, and more to look forward to. As many players have understandably been asking for more ethnic hair style options in Animal Crossing: New Horizons since the game released in March 2020, this news is much appreciated.

Players will now have six new Animal Crossing: New Horizons hairstyle options in to choose from when the update is enabled on November 19th. The ones shown in the trailer include the two featured in the title image, the one shown in the image above, as well as a short buzz cut with faded sides. There is also a style with voluminous curls, and a bald option, outside of the original New Horizons hairdos. These styles can be redeemed at the Nook Stop terminal inside Resident Services. Hopefully this is just the start of more choices to come in the future, as Nintendo is constantly releasing new content to keep Animal Crossing: New Horizons fresh many months after it debuted.

Players will also have new, hip Reactions that will let them sit on the ground and do workouts and yoga like many have seen their villagers do on their Animal Crossing: New Horizons islands. As this is a holiday update, they will also be able to partake in the upcoming Turkey Day on November 26th - New Horizons' version of Thanksgiving, as well as Toy Day, which is celebrated on December 24th. New NPCs will also be coming to New Horizons along with these festivities. The update also allows players to transfer saved game data in addition to new holiday items.

These new features offer a refreshing embracement for the wide range of fans who enjoy playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Although it has taken longer than it should have for these choices to become available, it opens doors and shines a brighter light on the game and its users' future.
