One Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has remade the iconic title sequence of the classic 90’s sit-com The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in yet another brilliant fan creation. Users have been flexing their creative muscles in the latest installment of Nintendo’s popular village life simulator thanks to a number of customization tools that allow them to create special clothing designs for their in-game avatars or even reshape their island homes, resulting in many great homages to other famous properties.

While most of these Animal Crossing: New Horizons fan works have remained in the realm of other Nintendo game franchises like Pokémon or Super Smash Bros, a good number of them have been based on hit television shows of the past couple of decades. These have included a reenactment of the intro from Courage The Cowardly Dog, fans remaking Avatar: The Last Airbender's Spirit Oasis, and - fittingly enough - Tiger King costumes based on the cast of the too-outlandish-to-be-true Netflix documentary.

Now, Reddit user u/HomemadeMartian has continued this trend of Animal Crossing: New Horizons-based fan tributes by posting a near-perfect reenactment of the opening sequence of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air (or “Bell” Air, in a pun regarding the game’s currency) on the Animal Crossing subreddit yesterday. This video captures the show’s entire intro sequence point-for-point in avatar form, as a young Will Smith tells the story of how “his life got flipped, turned upside down” in The Fresh Prince’s notoriously catchy theme song. There are a few small differences here and there, like how the “couple of guys who were up to no good” humorously attack Avatar Will with butterfly nets, but everything from The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’s opening is faithfully remade with an Animal Crossing twist, all the way down to Will’s head-spinning dance moves at the front door of his new home.

Viewers who grew up in the mid-’90s will likely have fond memories of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, which ran for six seasons and served as the launching point for a then-teenage (at least in the show) Will Smith to eventually reach the greater mainstream heights he enjoys to this day. While mostly being a comedy, the show would occasionally tackle serious issues like racism, parental abandonment, and drug use, and was bolstered by a number of memorable performances from co-stars like James Avery (who would go on to provide the voice of the Shredder in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon) and even a pre-America’s Next Top Model Tyra Banks for a brief string of episodes in the show’s fourth season.

All six seasons of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air are currently available to stream on HBO Max, making this a fitting time for a fun homage in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It really is impressive how the latest Animal Crossing title has fostered such a large and diverse array of fan-based tributes to not only other video games, but even classic TV shows that have continued to remain in the public mind to this day. Plus, u/HomemadeMartian’s well-crafted video is worth checking out just to hear that incredible Will Smith rap song once again.
