Animal Crossing: New Horizons pushes the capabilities of what the Nintendo Switch can do. The game is visually beautiful, with every detail accounted for. One of the most majestic aspects of the game are the flowers players are able to grow on their islands. And none are more desired than the roses.

Each island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons comes with its own native flowers. The flower that is possible on a player's island are roses, lilies, windflowers, pansies, tulips, cosmos, hyacinths, and mums. Players may not be able to see what type of flowers inhabit the island right away, but every island has one of eight flower possibilities. For some players, collecting the plants and crossbreeding them for different colors creates the ultimate Animal Crossing experience. Finding them can be a little tricky, though.

Finding Roses in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

If roses are not native to your island, don't despair. There are a few other ways to get roses throughout the game. Most ways to get roses require a little luck and some extra help, but it's not impossible to start growing those sweet rose hybrids.

Nook's Cranny

One way to find roses is through Nook's Cranny. Once players manage to get the Nook's Cranny store on the island, players will be able to purchase seeds. They are located in the cabinet at the back of the shop, which will also hold a few of the tools players commonly use (shovels, watering cans, etc).

Once upgraded and open, Timmy and Tommy will offer three different types of seeds in two different colors each. This gives the player the chance to purchase six different bags of seeds. Players will notice that the three types of flowers that are purchasable in the shop are fairly consistent from day-to-day. For example, if a player sees lilies, pansies, and mums in two different colors each, then the store generally will only carry these flowers. Unfortunately, very rarely, if ever, do the breeds change. However, once the shop upgrades, another type of seed will be introduced into the store.

Nook's Mystery Island Tour

Although it requires a little bit of luck, the Nook's Mystery Island Tour gives players the chance to find those elusive roses. Through the purchase of a Nook's Miles Ticket, players will be whisked away to a new island that (hopefully) has a whole slew of new things for the players.

However, this method requires more luck than anything. Players have to spend 2000 Nook Miles in order to get the Nook's Miles Ticket, which can feel like a bit of a grind to get. Additionally, there is no guarantee that the Mystery Island will have roses on it. More often than not, the Mystery Islands seem to contain a player's native fruit and flower on it. Players are welcome to risk it if there are expendable Nook Miles on hand, but there is always a better way to get roses.

Friends are Everything

The easiest way to get roses is to have a friend that has roses as a native flower. Although it is hard to believe, roses can and do show up on villager's island, and it makes sense. Animal Crossing is about building a community, so the next logical step would be for Island Representatives to communicate and share their resources, further building the sense of community within the game. Also, it helps that getting roses from friends is a much easier way of getting roses than any other.

If a player's friend has roses as their native flower, then simply visit that friends' island. If the players have best friend status, then the player will be able to use the shovel on the friend's island. This gives the player an opportunity to dig up a few roses to take back to their respective island. Additionally, if the friend has Nook's Cranny open for business, players will be able to simply buy the rose seeds from the store, leaving their friends' plants intact.
