As summer comes to a close, Animal Crossing: New Horizons hasn't given any indication of considering new events for the month of August. While the Fireworks Show event has come back around for a second year, with fireworks exploding over island towns every Sunday at 7 PM, the event doesn't appear to have added any substantial new content. After a summer of repeat events, introducing a new end-of-summer celebration could be just the thing needed for Animal Crossing: New Horizons gameplay.

Unfortunately, compared to the summer of 2020, Animal Crossing has done very little to make summer gameplay interesting for players this year. Last year New Horizons released updates introducing swimming and diving to enable exploration of the waters around the player's island, as well as cute bathing suits and new collectibles. This year, no such updates were included, and gameplay relied heavily on repeated seasons events. However, there is still a possibility that new events or mechanics could be introduced in the coming months.

According to Nintendo, "more free content" is planned for release later this year. However, it hasn't been stated whether this is the big New Horizons content update fans have been hoping for, or if it will be along the lines of what fans have seen so far this year. If the update were to come before the end of summer, it could potentially include a new seasonal event, or even offer expansions to core gameplay that would help increase playability for those who have completed most of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons content currently available.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Could End Summer With A CarnivalAnimal Crossing Best Island Layouts

While the fireworks for August are fun to watch in the evening while combing beaches, New Horizons could also consider adding an end-of-summer carnival to the final week of the month. The festival could come with a unique clothing line at Able Sisters, DIY recipes like sparklers, and a new NPC to host the event. Gameplay could also include a beach scavenger hunt where players must find event-specific shells to trade for unique accessories and furniture. At the end of the carnival, a fireworks finale could wrap the event on the final Sunday of the month.

Animal Crossing could also consider introducing a New Horizons back-to-school event running from the middle of August to the second week of September. During this time, players could find DIY recipes for school supplies, clothing, backpacks, notebooks, and classroom furniture. It could also be possible to purchase special decorations from Nook's Cranny like blackboards, university-style banners, or laptops. Either event would help freshen up Animal Crossing: New Horizons gameplay and give fans something unique to look forward to.
