Animal Crossing: New Horizons and JDRF are teaming up to raise awareness for Type 1 diabetes. The organization JDRF funds research and advocates for those with Type 1 diabetes and has created an island in New Horizons that reflects the experiences of those living with the condition.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows players to create their own islands as well as clothing and furniture designs, and fans have used this creative control to produce an incredible amount of fan content. Players also interact with various adorable characters that they can invite to live on their island. In New Horizons, which is broadly considered to be the best Animal Crossing game, fans can share these creations as well by sharing Dream Address codes to allow other players to "dream" and visit their islands.

The program JDRF Game2Give created, by JDRF, is teaming with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the company Insulet (who created the Omnipod insulin pump) to create Omnipod Bay - an island that displays the realities of those who live with Type 1 diabetes. On the island, players can explore, solve a maze, and sing in a concert. Omnipod Bay also features a hidden code that will reward players with a secret prize once it's solved. There are also clothing items up for grabs, including outfits with insulin pumps and diabetes bags included, as well as pieces featuring several advocacy groups.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is known for its mostly wholesome and creative community (even with the creation of an evil lair used to end a hated Animal Crossing NPC) and with the appearance of Omnipod Bay, players can now come together and learn more about type 1 diabetes. The island also allows for those living with the condition to wear clothing that is inspired by what they wear outside of the game. Omnipod Bay can be accessed by sleeping in-game and entering the Dream Code DA-9645-5879-6910. On launch day, Twitch streamers involved with the community held a charity stream, and JDRF is inviting others to have Omnipod Bay-themed charity streams to raise $15k for Type 1 diabetes awareness. It is vital that the condition is represented and JDRF Game2Give is working to provide that representation in video games.

This is not the first time ACNH has advocated and raised awareness for a cause. In 2020, a clothing set promoting LGBTQ suicide prevention was added when New Horizons teamed up with The Trevor Project. The Animal Crossing: New Horizons community strives to be inclusive and it shows in the family-friendly game and its cooperation with advocacy groups.
