Halloween has always been a big holiday in the Animal Crossing universe, and it appears that many villagers are preparing for the spooky holiday early by transforming their home and islands into creepy, yet cute, spectacles. With many Animal Crossing: New Horizons players sticking to certain themes while decorating and designing, these Halloween-themed villages may be the most well done theme yet.

Not a lot is known about how Animal Crossing: New Horizons will celebrate Halloween in 2020, though the trailers for New Horizons' summer updates have revealed some insight. The Summer Update Wave 2 hinted about what to expect for the Fall Update, and it included an image of a Jack O’Lantern decorating the town, implying that something big will be coming in time for October.

In previous Animal Crossing games, a non-playable character, Jack, who is wearing a big pumpkin on his head, will visit players’ town on Halloween in the evening. Other characters will join in the fun of dressing up, and it’s likely that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will celebrate Halloween in a way similar to previous generations.

The Best Halloween-Themed Villages In New Horizons

Even though Halloween may still be a little way off, and players have to sit tight for now, there are still a variety of Halloween-themed villages and homes to get inspiration from and potentially even visit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Some of the ones below are some of the very best.

Between the skeleton and the bloody paint featuring splattered handprints and the words “Help me” boldly written, @DanielKennedyDK’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons design is something straight out of a nightmare. The player avatar’s bloody coat completes the creepy look.

@yumeparadox shared an image of an avatar dressed in a witch's costume complete with the signature hat and wand. There will likely be tons of similar costumes available come Halloween in the Animal Crossing universe once October arrives, but this is proof that some Animal Crossing: New Horizons players don't need to be patient.

@ShinobiHaruka shared this image of what they describe as their “cute murder house.” From skin suits hung on the walls to the ominously burning torches, this New Horizons building gives off a creepy air that definitely compromises the overall comfort and invitingness of this player’s home, making it look like a scene from a horror movie.

@NicRNack’s new addition to his Animal Crossing: New Horizons village may not include pumpkins or Halloween candy, but it’s downright frightening. This player made it seem as though he’s putting a couple of bodies in the ground, which begs the question of what happened to them in the first place.

Halloween is the best night to practice witchcraft and the occult, right? Critical Role Dungeon Master @Matthewmercer is ready for whatever comes his way thanks to this interesting addition to his village. The demonic, cult-like symbols seem ready for a spooky séance or a ritual practice only suited for Halloween night.

Although this isn’t technically a shot from a player’s Halloween-themed island, it’s still worth a mention. @Stealth40k took a screenshot from a teaser featuring the Fall Update, which shows a new store that is coming to the Animal Crossing universe. The décor in the windows and Jack-O-Lantern outside implies it’s a Halloween store, so perhaps players will have somewhere specific to buy décor and costumes from.

There are already tons of cute (and creepy) Halloween-themed villages in Animal Crossing: New Horizonsand there are bound to be plenty more creative designs as the spookiest month of the year approaches.
