Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons' one-year anniversary update drops this week and its bringing a variety of exciting new features with it. One area in particular that fans have been requesting an update for is the game's custom design capabilities, and it looks like New Horizons is finally delivering in the form of the Custom Design Pro Editor+.

While most of the previous Animal Crossing: New Horizons updates have mostly just been adding holiday content or other smaller features, this looks to be one of the first to significantly expand the game's content beyond limited-time events. The latest update adds new items, new reactions, and even a brand-new Island Tour Creator mode. The reaction to the update seems to be mostly positive, despite the news that Bunny Day will return to New Horizons. But in a game so heavily predicated on customization and creation, the Custom Design Pro Editor+ looks to be the star of the show here. How much of an improvement is it, though?

The first thing that the Custom Design Pro Editor+ does is add more design slots. Once the player purchases the item from the Nook Stop Terminal for 2000 Nook Miles, their pattern storage will instantly expand. This new add-on allows for for 50 new slots in both the Normal and Pro modes, which means avid Animal Crossing design creators will have another 100 slots they can fill up.

Players Now Have Access to 100 New Design Slots

The Custom Design Pro Editor + also expands the list of items that players are able to decorate. With the new app, designs can now be placed on umbrellas, small flags, photo standees, and more. These options aren't entirely new, as Animal Crossing: New Leaf offered similar possibilities  in the past, but it's nice to see the latest game in the series continue to add missing features from previous entries.

The latest update also adds another massive New Horizons quality of life improvement in the form of the Custom Design Portal. This handy item can be purchased for just 300 Nook Miles, and allows the player to access the design portal from the convenience of their phone, rather than having to make the trek to Able Sisters every time. Now if they could just add bulk crafting!

Overall the latest Animal Crossing: New Horizons update looks to be the most significant so far. Creative-minded Animal Crossing players have more options than ever when it comes to island design, and it will be exciting to see what the community is able to do with all these new possibilities.
