One of the most addicting aspects of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the prospect of collecting and cataloging items. Players have the ability to collect entire sets of furniture, creating rooms and spaces that not only appease the Happy Home Association (HHA) but also reflect the individuality of each Animal Crossing player. Finding all the right furniture that a player wants can be tricky. It also doesn't help that different islands will have exclusive colors of particular items, making it difficult to complete a fully-furnished room to make New Horizons' HHA happy. But that's where cataloging with friends comes in.

Collecting all the Animal Crossing furniture in a series or set doesn't have to be an arduous task. Furniture collecting can be turned into a fun event for players to invite their friends to their island and share their goods with the collective.

By simply cataloging the items, Animal Crossing players who normally do not have access to island exclusive items have a chance to add the item to their catalog and order it at a later time. It also helps complete New Horizons' furniture sets which, when displayed in the home, can increase a players' HHA score. Additionally, cataloging items is far easier than most players expect.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Players' Catalog

A players' catalog is easy to find but can only be accessed once Nook's Cranny has been upgraded from a tent to a building. To get to the catalog, players will need to visit the Nook Stop machine inside of the Residential Services building. The Nook Stop machine in resident services gives players the option of repurchasing items that may have been given away, sold, lost in a players' room, or if players need multiple of an item. Simply opening the Nook Stop machine to go Nook Shopping. From here, select either the leaf button (allowing Animal Crossing players to purchase furniture) or the clothing symbol (allowing players to purchase clothing).

Throwing a catalog party can be exciting events for all players. It is a chance for them to receive items that may normally not be offered on their personal islands. However, it is worth mentioning that some items are pointless to add to a players' catalog. For example, items that are part of the Nook's Miles program cannot be ordered except through the ABD system. So, items like the different-colored lighthouses, Monster statues, and other exclusives cannot be ordered through a different ABD machine. This means that trying to catalog a particular colored spring horse will end up fruitless for players who do not have access to that color in the ABD machine.

Items created with DIY recipes also do not need to be cataloged. The only way to get DIY items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to create them. Since they're not available for purchase through the Nook Shopping app, they cannot be ordered through the app.

Nonetheless, cataloging can help with other items. For example, items that are part of New Horizons' Antique set come in different colors. Unfortunately, players are not allowed to customize the antique furniture and change the colors on their own. Instead, players will need to find the item in the desired color and either purchase it or catalog it.

The process of adding items to a players' catalog in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is ridiculously easy. The first thing players will want to do is take an inventory. This can be done either by visiting friends' islands or creating a list of what a player has or wants. From there, communicate with friends to see who has the item that is being searched for. If a player is lucky enough, at least one of the friends will have the desired item.

Once the friend who has the item is pinned down, then the two will have to meet up on an Animal Crossing island while carrying the item. Players can either have the friend with the item come to visit their island or go visit the friend's island, it really does not matter which is done. Then, simply have the friend drop the item. Do not try to place it, as Animal Crossing: New Horizons does not allow item placement when visiting an island or when having visitors. The player should then pick the item up, then drop it again for the friend to take back. The simple act of picking up the item immediately logs the item into a players' catalog. From here on out, the item should be orderable in Nook Shopping, assuming it's not a DIY or Nook Miles item.

Cataloging is a great way for players to complete furniture sets and explore new colors. So start working with friends and get those catalogs filled out!
