Just like collecting fruit trees, gathering different flower types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons can be quite a project. There are currently eight different types of flowers in New Horizons, and each can come in a range of colors. In many cases, these flowers must be bred to get the exact color players may be looking for. Because flower breeding can be a commitment, picking the right flower type to focus on can be important, and the choice can be influenced by many factors.

Breeding flowers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn't an easy task. A player's island spawns with a few different types, but the rest must be obtained by traveling to Mystery Islands, or by getting a few basic options as gifts from friends. Players also have access to a small selection of seeds at Nook's Cranny or the Gardening Shop. In order to plant already sprouted flowers, players will need to have originally moved them with a shovel, as just the flower blooms themselves aren't plantable.

Flower-type desirability can change depending on the time of year and what events are happening. While pink and white flowers can be appealing for spring decorations, red and blue can be lovely for summer Animal Crossing island designs. Black flowers make perfect additions to spooky, fall decorations, and orange and yellow options can be exciting any time of year. Certain flower types may also appear more elegant than others, like Roses or Lilies. Meanwhile, Tulips, Cosmos, and Hyacinths can be a more cute, versatile option.

Animal Crossing Flower Types Are Often Based On Personal Preference

Shrubs and plants will be available for Nature Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

While Roses remain popular among fans for their rarity, and Golden Roses are difficult to obtain, there are many other flower types that can be more aesthetically pleasing. The Cosmos is a particularly nice choice. With their cheery petals and cute yellow centers, Cosmos compliment any area they are placed in. There are currently six color varieties players can obtain, including red, white, yellow, orange, pink, and black. Cosmos aren't rare, so they can be accessed early in the game for those wanting their Animal Crossing island to look springtime fresh. Because of their availability and variety, Cosmos might just be the best flower in the game.

Like so many aspects of Animal Crossing, however, preference is often left up to the player. While some fans may enjoy the challenge of raising Roses in every color, others may prefer decorating the island with easier options. Covering Animal Crossing: New Horizons towns with brightly-colored blooms is just one of the many ways players can express their creative individuality during gameplay.
