Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for nearly a year. The slice-of-life simulation game released on March 20th, 2020, and has been a popular way for people to spend time together from a distance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Animal Crossing: New Horizons has also been a creative hub for elaborate island designs, adorable character creation, and community efforts to find the perfect villagers for each town thanks to the fan-made website Nookazon. Animal Crossing has hosted a slew of exciting events to keep players busy over the past year, while also expanding the available number of DIY recipes, furniture, and decorations to be collected. With such a big milestone ahead, many may be curious to know how the 1st anniversary of Animal Crossing will be celebrated.

March is already looking to be a busy month in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Shamrock Day and the Super Mario crossover events will be happening, but because these events are currently in the spotlight, there hasn't been any news on what might be planned for the 1st anniversary of Animal Crossing itself. This has left the potential upcoming events a guessing game, and there are many interesting possibilities that could potentially be released in the coming weeks.

Anniversary events could include something as simple as items that can be purchased from the Nook Stop, or developers could release information about a bigger event to celebrate at the plaza with New Horizons' villagers and other NPCs. An event involving Animal Crossing's island community could have special perks, including gifts from villagers when they are spoken to, or the ability to crack open special present balloons with a slingshot to find DIY recipes specific to the anniversary celebration.

Animal Crossing's Anniversary Should Celebrate The Community

An anniversary event could also offer rewards for traveling to a friend's island. Community and connection have been an emotional part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, even leading to new friendships and special proposals. The inclusion of those special relationships with items unique to different islands could bring the community together on the anniversary day itself. Certain items could spawn randomly on different islands, and players would need to travel to obtain all of the available items to complete the anniversary day set. These items could be furniture, clothing items, or DIY recipes.

The Animal Crossing anniversary could also be celebrated in a simple fashion, like a letter in mailboxes on the day of the event including a special hat, shirt, or decoration to commemorate a year of island living and town designing within the game. It is hard to say currently what developers might have in store, if anything at all, for Animal Crossing: New Horizons' 1st anniversary, but hopefully more information will be available in the coming weeks, as the special day creeps closer on the calendar.
