With just a little over a month left before the one-year anniversary of the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players are likely getting close to completing the galleries of their Museums, signifying they have found or caught nearly every possible species of bug, fish, and deep sea creature in the game. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can use crafted or purchased tools like fishing rods, nets, and swimming and diving gear to catch the various critters who also call the island home. These critters can be kept, somewhat like pets or decorations, turned into statues, donated to the Museum, or sold for extra bells. As the months and seasons change, so do the available critters on a player's island.
February appears to be a slow month, and players can expect only one new deep sea creature, only available to islands in the Southern hemisphere. Deep sea creatures can only be caught by equipping a wetsuit and jumping into the ocean. Players will need to swim close to the silhouette of one on the ocean floor and dive down to retrieve it. There are a total of 40 deep sea creatures available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons so far, and of these, 18 are available in the Northern hemisphere in February and 24 in the Southern. At the end of February, four deep sea creatures will leave the Northern hemisphere, and two will leave the Southern. Every New Deep Sea Creature Coming To Animal Crossing: New Horizons In February
The only deep sea creature arriving in February is the Flatworm in the Southern hemisphere. The Flatworm makes a tiny shadow and moves in slow, short bursts. It is available in the Southern hemisphere from February through March and is active overnight from 4 p.m. until 9 a.m. Players can sell Flatworms they catch at Nook's Cranny for 700 bells each.
At the end of the month, two creatures will leave the Southern hemisphere. These are:
- Vampire Squid (10,000 bells)
- Sea Pineapple (1,500 bells)
Players who still have not caught these creatures may want to prioritize finding them. Otherwise, they will need to wait another year or time travel to complete their Museum collection.
In the depths of winter in the Northern hemisphere, players won't get to go diving for any new creatures during the month of February. However, they should make a point to do a little diving. After February 28, players will no longer have the opportunity to catch the following critters:
- Sea Pig (8,000 bells)
- Oyster (2,000 bells)
- Sweet Shrimp (1,400 bells)
- Venus' Flower Basket (5,000 bells)
If players have not donated one of each of these to the Museum, February might be a good time to do so.
The new year promises new content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The next big thing for players to look for is the arrival of Pavé and the Festivale Event, which will likely be similar to Carnivale or Mardi Gras. While not much information has leaked so far, players can likely expect more news about this event and more throughout the new month.
