A crafty Animal Crossing: New Horizons player recently decided to put their knitting skills to the test by creating a real-life version of Mom’s Hand-Knit Sweater from the game. The knitted sweater is a clothing item with eight available designs, and it's sent to the player by their in-game mother during Animal Crossing's winter season.

Although she's never seen in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mom is the player’s doting parent who often sends letters reminiscing about their lives prior to the beginning of the game or offering words of wisdom. Aside from letters, Mom will also send the player random gifts of fruit or acorns, as well as a homemade gift every month. Unfortunately, while Mom is able to send letters and presents, the player is unable to send mail back to her to show their appreciation. However, one player did return the gesture in another manner by building a Craft Room for Animal Crossing's Mom, dedicating an area of their home to the matronly character.

Reddit user novaspacecat showed off their skillful recreation of Mom’s Hand-Knit Sweater from Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the popular series' subreddit. The beige knitted sweater’s design features two big sunflowers surrounded by four smaller pink blossoms, which took the Redditor approximately a month to complete. What is perhaps even more impressive is that novaspacecat did not use a knitting pattern, instead electing to knit according to their own measurements before completing the sweater by stitching in the flower designs on top. The creation was incredibly well-received by fellow Animal Crossing fans on Reddit, many of them wishing they could craft or purchase one of Mom’s Hand-Knit Sweater for themselves.

Animal Crossing’s characters and aesthetics continues to inspire real-life creations, with several skilled users of the same subreddit recently crocheted their favorite Animal Crossing villagers. Showing off their creations to one another, they crocheted characters like Lily, Celeste, and even a demonic themed goat villager inspired by Black Phillip from the 2015 horror film The Witch.

Despite the lack of major updates for Animal Crossing: New Horizons this year, crafty players continue to keep themselves busy with impressive builds both in-game and in real-life. Considering the popularity of official Animal Crossing collaborations that often sell out quickly upon release, it’s unsurprising that more design-inclined fans have used their skills to make their own items from the game. It seems fair to say that Animal Crossing’s in-game Mom would be proud of all the fans following in her crafty footsteps.
