The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Mario update is now available for download, allowing players to prepare to purchase a wide range of Super Mario Bros.-themed ACNH items and furniture. Animal Crossing: New Horizons remains a hugely popular Nintendo Switch title, and while its presence in the industry isn't quite at the same level it was at launch, the sustained interest of its millions of players and the constant content rollouts has helped it continue to sell well and drive interest for the Nintendo handheld.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Mario update has been known for some time, with players getting more details in a recent Nintendo Direct. Alongside several Mushroom Kingdom classics being rendered as clothing items or furniture, the ACNH Super Marios Bros. crossover will also add warp pipes to help with island transportation, opening up plenty of new avenues for design-oriented players. It's yet another example of the balance Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to strike with its updates, offering items that players want more casually alongside meaningful updates that open up new possibilities for the more dedicated portion of the fanbase.

Today, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Mario update is now available for download, as announced in a tweet from the official ACNH Twitter account. The tweet reminds players of what's coming to the game and when it will be available, with Super Mario Bros.-themed furniture and fashion items being made available for purchase in-game on March 1. Additionally, players who download the update will be given a free mushroom mural as another bonus for the celebrations.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Mario update makes a lot of sense for both properties, with Super Mario Bros. celebrating its 35th anniversary while Animal Crossing: New Horizons approaches its first-year anniversary. It also blends two family-friendly properties together, ensuring there's something for everyone within the update - but that's not the only thing coming to the game. ACNH is due to add content for Girl's Day, Pi Day, and St. Patrick's Day as well, meaning players who aren't as interested in the Mario franchise will still have additions to look forward to.

The addition of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Mario update also makes for an interesting period for the game, which has plenty of crossover potential with other Nintendo properties and beyond. Nearly one year in, the challenge to keep players invested in ACNH will only grow, and more crossovers and substantial content updates are surely in the warp pipeline, ready to be announced soon.
