Animal Crossing features a large cast of NPCs for fans to interact with, with New Horizons including almost 400 villagers that players can invite to live on their island. With such a large cast, many fans have certain residents they love more than most other characters in the series - as well as villagers they dislike. But which villager is viewed as the most untrustworthy?

Villagers are arguably the core aspect of the Animal Crossing series, as the games focus around the player's day-to-day life as a resident of the town. Players are able to converse with and befriend residents, as well as run errands for them or allow them to visit their house. New Horizons, as the latest game in the franchise, also added in several new features to allow players to encounter more characters. Villagers can appear at the campsite of player's islands, and by touring mystery islands fans can search for their favorite NPCs from the series.

New Horizons in particular also saw a large market emerge for the purpose of trading Animal Crossing villagers, allowing players to get rid of unwanted characters and replace them with more desirable NPCs. Several lists exist to rank villagers by how valuable they are in the eyes of the fan community. For example, newer villagers such as the ones introduced in New Horizons or the characters packaged as part of Nintendo's Sanrio collaboration are more sought-after than other villagers might be.

Who Animal Crossing's Most Suspicious Villager Is

Who Animal Crossing's Least Trustworthy Villager Is (& Why) (2)

Mouse villagers as a whole tend to receive mixed reception from Animal Crossing fans. Moose, for example, seems to garner polarized reactions - he's either loved or hated, with little room in the middle where players are indifferent to him. This can be chalked up in many cases to the character design of these villagers. Characters who look unappealing when compared to fan-favorite such as Raymond or Cherry have a tendency to create strong reactions. Limberg is another mouse villager who is viewed with a mixed response, and players may find his appearance unsettling and untrustworthy. This may be why Limberg is commonly viewed as a suspicious villager to have on the island.

Limberg features beady eyes and an ever-present smile, and the blue line displayed around his entire mouth are reminiscent to clowns in the eyes of some players. Given a phobia of clowns is a relatively common fear, this aspect of Limberg's design can make some players uneasy. His personality plays a part in why so many players dislike him, as well. Limberg is a cranky villager, and as a whole, cranky villagers are harder to get along with than other personality types. While they're capable of warming up to the player, they can come across as rude and are prone to starting fights with other villagers, particularly those who have contrasting personalities. As is the case with most villagers, though, Limberg's likability comes down to the preference of individual Animal Crossing fans, although he's arguably the least trustworthy.
