A clever Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has created the illusion of stairs in their home using furniture and partition walls. The game's Happy Home Paradise DLC lets players decorate vacation homes for villagers, and also added a host of new decoration options for players to utilize in their own homes. These new design methods have been used by players in a myriad of creative ways to make unique in-game layouts.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise DLC release coincided with the release of the game's huge 2.0 update in November of 2021, both of which added new characters and items to the game. Additions from Happy Home Paradise included counters, partition walls, and accent walls. The Animal Crossing 2.0 update was the largest in the game's history, bringing things like Brewster's Cafe to the museum, an update to Harv's Island, and over 9,000 new Animal Crossing items to the game.

Reddit user shakeber shared a clever Animal Crossing: New Horizons design this week, creating the illusion of stairs in their home. The user utilized the Stair Dresser item, which was added in the 2.0 update, deftly placed slightly behind a partition wall to create the design. The player made an entire front door area surrounding the design to make the illusion more complete, including a pattern that creates the look of a front door, shoes on the ground, a coatrack, a bike, and a bundle of newspapers. A pattern placed on the ground looks like a long entryway rug, furthering the illusion even more.

How A Dresser Created Fake Stairs In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Creating optical illusions with perspective is a popular design technique in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for both indoor and outdoor areas. The Animal Crossing 2.0 update's front-facing camera addition was likely used to take these photos; it's a tool that's been utilized by many players since release to help achieve even more specific angles and further emphasize perspective-based illusions in-game. Interestingly, while the Stair Dresser stairs are the main focus of the post, many players also realized a new use for another item from the photo: the Curtain Partition, which has been used to create the look of window curtains instead of being used as a partition.

Although the illusion in this home is impressive, it's really the smaller touches that make the scene complete - if it were only the Stair Dresser and the partition wall, the design would not be nearly as good. Even over two years after its release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are still discovering new uses for items and teaching others about them online, sparking new creative ideas amongst the player base. Animal Crossing player designs are constantly showcasing creative takes on in-game objects that surprise and delight other users. Whether it's a new use for a wallpaper, a creative utilization of a partition wall, or an item placed in an unexpected way, the creativity of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community is what keeps the game popular years into its lifespan.
