The Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update added a ton of new features and items to the game, rejuvenating many islands with fresh and long-requested content. New activities like farming and cooking were introduced, and familiar, beloved characters like Brewster have finally appeared. Along with all the new content, the Nook Stop was updated with new DIY recipes and furniture items, including the donation box.

Players may have noticed this quality-of-life update when Animal Crossing 2.0 went live early on November 3. The donation box lets players leave tips more securely when visiting other islands, trading turnips, and downloading custom designs. Rather than just dropping a bag of Bells on the ground, players can put their tips in the box to ensure that they’ll be noticed and picked up by the island’s owner.

The donation box is one of over 9,000 new items added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the free 2.0 update, along with new customization and decorating options. While Nintendo has stated that this will be the last major free update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players will have plenty to explore with all of the new features that have been added, as well as the paid Happy Home Paradise DLC.

How To Get The Donation Box In Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing New Horizons Donation Box DIY recipe from Nook Stop

Animal Crossing's new donation box is one of the DIY recipes that was added to the Nook Stop. Players can visit the Nook Stop in the Town Hall to redeem 800 Nook Miles for the recipe, which is delivered immediately. It takes 4 wood and 4 softwood to build, and 3 customization kits to change the design. The box can be customized with three finishes and three stickers, as well as custom designs.

Once the donation box is placed in the town or home, players can donate 1,000 Bells at a time. Unfortunately, this is a fixed rate, so donating large amounts may take a little patience. However, Bells are withdrawn all at once and can be withdrawn while the donation box is in the player’s pocket.

This quality-of-life update came as a surprise to players, as it hadn’t been featured in the October 15 Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct announcement, but it’s a welcome addition as players now have a convenient system for leaving tips. Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 encourages players to visit each other’s islands with social features like the donation box, group stretching, and Brewster’s cafe, promising a welcome refreshment to island life in addition to the Happy Home Archipelago in the paid DLC.
