Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 introduced a number of new decorating features and items, allowing players to customize their walls and now ceilings more than ever before. They can now use wallpaper to create an accent wall, install partition walls to change the landscape of a room, and hang lights and shelves from the ceiling. These new features can also be accessed as part of the Happy Home Paradise DLC so players can implement them in villagers' vacation homes.

Ceiling items were first introduced to the Animal Crossing series in Happy Home Designer, which included a variety of lamps and decorations that the player could unlock. They can be hung from the ceiling to add depth to their design as well as create lighting effects. Animal Crossing: New Horizons now includes lights, shelves, chandeliers, and even signboards, giving players even more options to bring their interior design visions to life.

In the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 update, players now have the option to toggle ceiling decoration while in decorating mode. Just as they could switch between decorating the wall and floor, players can now swap between walls, floors, and ceilings. Ceiling decorations in the player’s pocket will have a lamp icon in decorating mode to indicate where they can be placed in the room.

How To Decorate Ceilings In Animal Crossing

ACNH 2.0 Hanging Lights

In order to unlock the ability to decorate their ceilings, Animal Crossing players will have to visit Resident Services and purchase the Pro Decorating License from the Nook Stop for 2,500 Nook Miles. These miles will be refunded if the player has the Happy Home Paradise DLC. Once they have unlocked the license, players can toggle between decorating their floors, walls, and ceiling with the + button while in decorating mode.

Ceiling decorations can be purchased at Nook’s Cranny, as the shop has been updated to carry many of the 9k new items added in the 2.0 update. In addition, ceiling items can occasionally be found like other furniture in balloons and other random drops, which only requires a bit of luck. Players with the Happy Home Paradise DLC may also be able to find and purchase ceiling decorations in the shop of the Paradise Planning office for Poki, a new in-game currency.

Toggling the ceiling in decoration mode will give players a top-down view to place ceiling furniture items wherever they want. This view also includes a grid to help players find the exact right location for their new lamps and shelves, though they can rotate the camera to view different angles of the room and lighting effects.
