Animal Crossing: New Horizons brought the series to unprecedented popularity on Nintendo Switch, but longtime fans soon noticed something was missing. Players can place items anywhere and decorate their islands with far more detail than ever before, even having the power to customize the very terrain itself, but the lack of Animal Crossing's beloved Froggy Chair has some members of the community wondering if Nintendo is ever going to add it back into New Horizons where it belongs.

Ever since the Japan-exclusive Animal Forest on Nintendo 64 (later ported to GameCube as Animal Crossing in the West), there's been a small furniture set known as the Froggy Set, featuring only the Lily-Pad Table and the Froggy Chair. It's just a simple, green chair with a picture of a smiling cartoon frog on it, but it ended becoming a popular meme among the Animal Crossing community.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a huge success, but no amount of holiday-themed updates or difficult-to-find amiibo cards can fill its Froggy Chair-shaped void. Fans instantly realized the set was missing, which led to many comedic posts lamenting the Froggy Chair's unexpected absence. New Horizons has constantly been updated since its March 2020 launch, but Nintendo has yet to put this fan-favorite item in the game. It's unclear why, but perhaps Nintendo will eventually let the Froggy Chair make its triumphant return.

Old Animal Crossing Items Have Returned In New Horizons Updates Before

Most New Horizons updates have focused on adding furniture and activities for specific holidays, but that doesn't mean Nintendo can't introduce an update that adds the Froggy Chair in the future. New Horizons also lacked the series' many Nintendo-themed items at launch. Then, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Super Mario, Mario-themed items were added to New Horizons, many of which had appeared in previous Animal Crossing games. Nintendo has proven cut items can make a return, so the Froggy Chair still has a chance.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now officially a year old, which means there aren't many holidays left for Nintendo to theme its updates around. Because of this, simple Animal Crossing updates that add new furniture pieces or activities are likely going to be the norm from now on, and it wouldn't hurt to continue trickling out cut content from past games. Even if Nintendo doesn't add the Froggy Chair itself, however, Animal Crossing: New Horizons' customization tools have already allowed some players to bring as much Froggy Chair love as they can back into their towns, as seen in the many custom designs shared by froggycrossing below.
