Recently actress Brie Larson revealed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons helped her get into cooking as well as other real-world interests sparked from playing the game. Nintendo's latest installment in its social simulator series has been available for nearly two years and is a smash hit for the developer. Just recently Animal Crossing was overtaken by Pokémon Legends: Arceus in UK sales for the Nintendo Switch, bumping it down to third-all time for the console.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons seemed to launch at the most opportune time for the type of game it is back in March of 2020. The lighthearted collaborative nature of the title provided a social avenue during a time where most traditional means were closed off because of the COVID-19 pandemic, then still in its early stages. People from all walks of life turned to Animal Crossing during this time and the quality of the title has managed to maintain a strong player base for nearly two full years.
One of those more famous players is Captain Marvel star Brie Larson, who has openly shared and expressed her fandom of Animal Crossing: New Horizons for years now. In a recent video on her YouTube channel about how she is prioritizing herself this year, the actress indicated that the social simulator has actually had an impact on things she does in reality. Her interests in virtual gaming worlds like the one in Animal Crossing sparked an interest in planting trees and gardening with her own property. That, in turn, helped develop her newfound obsession with cooking.
Other celebrities have also shared their enthusiasm for New Horizons and how it has worked into their own lives. Just a month after the game's initial launch, Lord of the Rings actor Elijah Wood famously reached out to one of his fans on Twitter after they posted their turnip prices. Since then many other celebrities have shared their experience with Animal Crossing including President Joe Biden who used the title as part of the 2020 election campaign to encourage young people to vote.
Brie Larson's experience shows the positive influence gaming can have on an individual when they apply certain lessons and curiosities to their real life. Animal Crossing: New Horizons in particular has inspired a lot of creation that the community has put on display both in-game and beyond for nearly two years.
