A clever Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has created a sunken bridge for their island utilizing the game's terraforming system. Terraforming is often used in unique ways by Animal Crossing players, offering endless possibilities when it comes to island layout customization. With an emphasis on creativity, many New Horizons fans come together online to share their creations, leading many to try their hand at particularly unique and clever projects.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons introduced a number of new features to the Animal Crossing series when it was released in 2020, many of which involved decoration. For the first time, players can place furniture outside on their island, and utilize the terraforming mechanic to manipulate cliffs and waterways however they like. The system is presented through a special Nookphone app called Island Designer, which alongside path making, allows players to create, destroy, and shape rivers, waterfalls, and cliffs up to three levels high on their island. Players can unlock terraforming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons after K.K. Slider performs on their island by purchasing the Waterscaping Permit and Cliff Construction Permit with Nook Miles for the Island Designer app.

Recently, Twitter user crossingani_ shared a unique take on the terraforming app's abilities with a clever, sunken bridge. In the midst of a large lake, they've created a small island flanked by two staircases. There are many small details they've put into the design to make it special, including a few custom patterns which have been used on the ground to make the land bridge look more rustic. The design even uses a tiny waterfall that flows in the middle of the miniature island. Plants, rocks, a Bamboo Stopblock, and a Tall Lantern have been added as accents in the area as well, making maximum use of the space.

The land bridge is an excellent example of creative terraforming in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, as the player has not only created a beautiful space on their island but also avoided the need for an actual bridge across the space. Since New Horizons can only support a maximum of 8 bridges on an island, a land bridge is an intuitive and aesthetically pleasant alternative. An official bridge would also cost the player anywhere from 98,000 to 228,000 Bells depending on their chosen design, whereas this terraformed version is free, making it a frugal choice for those saving up to pay off Tom Nook.

The style of utilizing small spaces to their maximum potential has become a popular aesthetic in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and brings with it a myriad of possibilities for creating charming locations. While some players enjoy building sprawling projects across their island, building features like large restaurants of beach areas, other fans prefer to utilize the space available to create a series of smaller, themed designs. Even years into the game's lifespan, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are still finding special new ways to design their islands, sharing them with an ever-growing, creative community.
