A crafty Animal Crossing: New Horizons player recreated an iconic location from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. One of the biggest critical and commercial hits of 2020 is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the adorable society simulator allows players to build their own tiny civilization on a picturesque island, and nearly every facet of the experience can be customized to the player's liking. From the player character's appearance to the geography of their island, there is almost no limit to the possibilities provided in the Nintendo first-party title.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a game all about creativity and player expression. From unique home designs to an island based on the face of Danny DeVito, the new Animal Crossing has asserted itself as a platform for the imagination of its players, and that includes tributes to other famous Nintendo games.

As spotted on Reddit, user raylolSW decided to create a small heart-shaped lake based on Lover's Pond from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on their island. The site of a sweet-natured quest from the 2017 Switch launch title, Lover's Pond is a tiny body of water in the perfect shape of a heart found in the remote mountains of Hyrule, where two star-crossed lovers are fated to be united by Link. While the Animal Crossing version is unavoidably more chunky and angular than the original, it's still unmistakably based on the original pond, especially with two fabulously custom design-clad players standing in for that quest's Hylian and Gerudo lovebirds in the recreation.

In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players who discover the entirely optional Lover's Pond can take part in a side quest, "A Gift of Nightshade." The quest entails helping bashful a Hylian, Wabbin, muster up the courage to profess his romantic feelings for an equally shy Perda, a Gerudo. After acquiring some of the eponymous herb for the nervous love-struck villager, the player is rewarded with some rupees for completing the quest. In the Animal Crossing facsimile, the Lover's Pond is surrounded by flowers, including blue hyacinths, which vaguely resemble the source material's nightshade..

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has only been out for a couple of months, but it's taken the world by storm due to its sheer breadth of player-created content. Arguably the last time a Nintendo game (or any game, for that matter) had such an effect over the industry was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Released as a Nintendo Switch launch title in 2017 (a version also made its way to Wii U on the same day), Breath of the Wild captured the imaginations of players with the level of freedom it offered to players, allowing them to figure out their own creative solutions to the game's many challenges. With this in mind, it makes perfect sense that an Animal Crossing: New Horizons player would play tribute to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
