Angelina Jolie is set to direct a new movie entitled Without Blood, starring Salma Hayek. The Oscar-winning actress made her commercial directorial debut back in 2011 with the romantic war film In the Land of Blood and Honey, starring Goran Kostić and Zana Marjanović. Since then, Jolie has gone on to direct a further three pictures: Unbroken, First They Killed My Father, and the 2015 romance film By the Sea, which saw Jolie star alongside her former husband Brad Pitt. Taking a break from directing since 2017, Jolie garnered interest for her portrayal of Thena in the MCU’s Eternals last year, where she starred opposite Hayek, who played Ajak. In March 2022, it was revealed that Jolie had signed a three-year deal with Fremantle and was set to direct Without Blood, based on the bestselling Italian novel by Alessandro Baricco.

Now, Collider reports that Hayek will star in Jolie's film alongside Demián Bichir. The roles of both actors are currently being kept under wraps, but Without Blood does mark an exciting reunion for Jolie and Hayek after their work in Eternals.

In addition to directing the project, Jolie is also serving as a writer and producer. Though plot details surrounding the film remain sparse, the original book focused on a character named Nina in the harrowing aftermath of an unnamed conflict. Produced in partnership with Fremantle, the feature will be Jolie’s first under her deal with the studio, working with her own company, Jolie Productions, as well as The Apartment Pictures and De Maio Entertainment. Filming on Without Blood is currently underway across Rome and southern Italy.
