The creatives behind Disney+'s latest Star Wars show Andor have revealed it will be releasing this August. Diego Luna is leading the cast of the upcoming show, reprising his role from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story alongside fellow vets Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, while Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller are all making their franchise debuts. Rogue One co-writer and reshoot director Tony Gilroy is acting as head writer on Andor.

Andor is set five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and will explore Luna's character as he ventures from becoming a thief to a celebrated rebel spy. The 12-episode series will cover the span of one year, while the in-development Andor season 2 will lead directly into the events of its original film. After a long development cycle, audiences are finally learning when they can see Andor grace their screens.

During the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase for Star Wars Celebration, of which Screen Rant attended, Lucasfilm officially revealed the Andor release window. The latest Star Wars series will premiere on Disney+ on August, and though initially not revealing a specific date, the trailer has since confirmed it will premiere on August 31. Development on Andor season 2 is also currently underway.

This wouldn't be the first time Disney+ has elected to release multiple episodes at once for a new series as Marvel Cinematic Universe's Hawkeye dropped with its first two episodes at once in November. Given Andor is running longer than most other Star Wars shows with 12 episodes, whereas The Mandalorian's first two seasons included eight and The Book of Boba Fett seven episodes, it's understandable Lucasfilm would want to get a jump on the show's schedule. Additionally, with the studio confirming that its Willow sequel series is set to premiere in November, their calendar looks to be filled accordingly with little gaps between projects.

While audiences will have to wait a little longer for the arrival of Andor, the show's and Star Wars' futures are already looking bright. At the Star Wars Celebration Event, Lucasfilm confirmed that season 2 of Andor is moving forward at Disney+ with a 12-episode order and that the new season of the series will enter production later this year and will explore the four years leading up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's events, where the titular character would meet his end. The wait for his return is nearly over as Andor premieres on Disney+ on August 31.
