Andor season 2 will officially feature a major original trilogy Star Wars planet connected to the Rebels. The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel Disney+ show stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor five years before the standalone movie happened. The events of Andor season 1 have followed Cassian as he realizes the lengths that the Empire will go to remain in power, setting up his turn to fully becoming a member of the Rebel Alliance. There are still several episodes to go before the first season concludes, but Lucasfilm has already confirmed that season 2 is happening.

Details on Andor season 2 have continued to surface as the start of production nears. While the first season of the show follows Cassian's life over the span of a single year, the second season will showcase a wider range of his life. The twelve-episode season is confirmed to follow what happens to Cassian between 5 BBY and the beginning of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 0 BBY. The series has included a few notable pieces of Star Wars canon so far, including Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and glimpses of life on Coruscant. It has been expected that the connections will grow as Andor closes in on the beginning of Rogue One.

It has now been confirmed that Andor season 2 is returning to Yavin 4. Series creator Tony Gilroy recently spoke to Collider and was praising the work of a new writer joining season 2, Tom Bissell. It was during this moment that Gilroy confirmed that a return to Yavin 4 is part of Andor season 2's story. Yavin is famously the planet that the Rebels use as their base in A New Hope. It was also featured as a location in Rogue One.

Why Andor Season 2 Needs To Visit Yavin 4

Cassian Andor Rogue One Yavin Base

The confirmation that Yavin 4 is in Andor season 2 is hardly a surprise given where the show's story is heading. With the series diving deeper into life for the Rebels and making Rogue One better, it only makes sense that their known base of operation will be included. The first season is continuing to ratchet up the pressure on Mon Mothma and others associated with the Rebellion who are trying to still be part of the normal world. Bringing Yavin 4 into the mix will give Andor season 2 a location that can serve as a central hub for the main characters to keep crossing paths. At the very least, it can explain how, when, and why the Rebels first settled on Yavin 4.

It will be fascinating to see if Yavin 4 is the first of many familiar planets and locations that Andor season 2 includes. Since Coruscant is the political capital of the Empire and where Mon Mothma and Luthen (Stellan Skarsgård) are currently stationed, more of the story taking place there is possible. If Mon Mothma's Rebel ally is Bail Organa, viewers could also be treated to return trips to Alderaan in Andor season 2, while Rogue One planets like Jedha and Scarif could also be featured potentially. All that is known for certain right now is that Yavin 4 is returning in Andor season 2 to give the iconic Star Wars location another appearance.
