Lucasfilm look to be making major headway on its latest Star Wars show as creator Tony Gilroy reveals Andor season 2 will begin filming in November. The series will act as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and explore the origins of Cassian Andor, the thief who would go on to become a revolutionary, join the Rebellion and help put the pieces in place to bring the Death Star down. Andor will also explore the early days of the Rebels as they quietly form to oppose the Sith-driven Galactic Empire on the rise following the devastating Order 66.

Diego Luna is returning to lead the cast of Andor in the titular role alongside fellow Star Wars vets Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, as well as franchise newcomers Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Fiona Shaw, Robert Emms, David Hayman, Alex Ferns and Clemens Schick. Development on the series was announced in early 2018 as Lucasfilm began putting together projects for Disney+, including the hit first show The Mandalorian, with filming on the series running from November 2020 to September 2021. Word began swirling that Andor season 2 had been greenlit earlier this year, with the studio confirming it this past May, and now it looks like the show will be getting back to production fast.

While appearing at the Disney+ Television Critics Association panel (via CBR), Tony Gilroy offered an update on Andor season 2. The new Star Wars show creator confirmed post-production is wrapping on the season 1 finale and that season 2 will begin filming this November. See what Gilroy said below:

"We are covering one year in our first 12 episodes that we’ve completed, in fact, we’re finishing our final mix on [Episode] 12 tomorrow. We are going to do another 12 episodes starting in November and the organizing principle for shooting is that we do blocks of three, so last year we were looking at the difficulty of doing five years, which seemed like it would take us the next 30 years."

It's interesting that Gilroy has confirmed Andor season 2 will start filming in November given that a report had previously indicated the Star Wars show would get back to production at that time was debunked by Disney. Some speculated that another Star Wars project would be filming in November instead of Andor season 2, given Lucasfilm has multiple other shows in the work, including Jude Law's Skeleton Crew, which is set for a 2023 release. Though no release window has been given for the next season of the show, the fact that Andor season 2 is set to start filming in November could indicate that the show will return in 2023.

Regardless of when it will arrive, the confirmation that Andor season 2 will start filming in November should come as exciting news for fans of the Star Wars franchise. With the show said to explore the five years of Andor's life prior to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, with season 1 chronicling one year, it will be interesting to see if Gilroy and his team split up the story across five seasons or if season 2 will close out the prequel series. While audiences await further details on the show's future, they can look forward to Andor season 1 premiering on September 21.
