Tony Gilroy reveals that each three-episode block in Andor season 2 will take place over a few days, with the finale leading straight into Rogue One. The first season of Andor follows Cassian Andor as he goes from a lone wolf scavenger to someone who wants to fight for the Rebellion. The second season will show him grow into the skilled spy who is willing to sacrifice everything in the name of the Rebellion in Rogue One.

Screen Rant attended an Andor FYC Emmy event, which included a Q&A with Gilroy and some of the cast. During the panel, Gilroy explained the structure of the second season of Andor. He also revealed that each three-episode block will cover three days, with the final episodes leading directly into Rogue One. Check out Gilroy's full quote below:

What we're doing now for the second season, to finish, is we have four years to cover. Because we break down in these three block chunks, each block of three will be a year; we're going to jump a year. When we come back for the second [season], we'll come back [and] a year will have evaporated, and it'll take place over a Friday, Saturday, and a Sunday. Then we'll jump a year, and we'll do the same thing again. We'll do it four times. The last tranche will be the [three] days before Rogue One, and then we'll walk you into the movie.

Andor Will Cover 3 Days In Each Of The 4 Years Season 2 Covers

The first season of Andor established the structure of telling story arcs in three-episode blocks. Cassian Andor grew over the course of the first season, with people influencing his evolution until he eventually chose to join the Rebellion. Cassian Andor began as a lone wolf scavenger who worked with the Rebellion as a mercenary, but over the course of the season, he became someone who saw the evils of the Empire across the galaxy and decided to join the fight.

In the second season, Andor will learn how to be a spy for the Rebellion, working as one part of a much bigger cause. The time jumps open the possibility of a faster evolution for Cassian Andor, as each time jump will show him improving as an operative. What is interesting is that each block will take place over the course of a few days, meaning they will each cover key moments in those years not only for Cassian Andor but likely for Mon Mothma and the Rebellion as a whole. This could include the introduction of Cassian Andor's loyal droid, K-2SO.

With the final block of episodes leading directly into Rogue One, more of Cassian Andor's mindset before his sacrifice can be revealed. In Rogue One, Cassian Andor is somewhat jaded after being a spy for the Rebellion and getting his hands dirty for so long. His decision to go on the suicide mission to retrieve the Death Star plans is motivated by guilt. Andor season 2 can show not only his evolution as a Rebel spy but also what led to this guilt and dig into how he has changed since joining the Rebellion before Rogue One.
