Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Andor season 1The explosive Andor season 1 finale left many unanswered questions for Star Wars aficionados. Following Cassian's return to Ferrix, his burgeoning partnership with Rebel coordinator-in-chief Luthen Rael, and the resentment bubbling across much of the galaxy, Andor season 1 has effectively set the stage for the more action-heavy elements of the wider Star Wars saga. However, while many character arcs and plot points are effectively set up, there remain a few lingering Andor mysteries after episode 12.

Although Andor's setting in the Star Wars timeline means that it will fill in the gaps between the birth of the Empire and Rogue One, there's still a long way to go before the events of the 2016 prequel. Given the absence of key characters like Luthen and Vel Sartha from Rogue One, as well as notable figures yet to appear in Andor itself, it's safe to assume that there are many more dramatic moments still to come in season 2. Furthermore, although the Andor season 1 finale did an admirable job of bringing most of its key characters together in one location, the climactic acts of defiance from Ferrix residents created a whole heap of additional loose ends for Andor season 2 to address. Here's every unanswered question after the Andor season 1 finale.

Does Luthen Fully Trust Cassian Now?

Cassian Andor and Luthen

Andor season 1 ended on something of a cliffhanger, with Cassian entrusting his fate to Luthen, asking him to either kill him or take him under his wing. Considering that Luthen only travels to Ferrix to see Cassian dead, thus tying up a potentially dangerous loose end, it would seem that there's a real likelihood of him following through on his original plan. However, given Cassian's role in Rogue One, audiences know the choice Luthen will make.

What's less clear is whether or not Luthen and Cassian's relationship is now on firm footing. His status as a master of espionage means that Luthen is naturally distrustful of others. His ruthlessness in dealing with the Anto Kreegyr situation also shows his lack of sentimentality. As such, it's likely that he will continue to keep Cassian at arm's length – just as he does with fellow ally Vel. Although Cassian is certainly ingratiating himself with the Rebellion, Luthen's inability to trust anyone makes it unlikely that he'll make an exception for his newest recruit.

What Happens To Luthen Before Rogue One?

Luthen aboard his ship in Andor Episode 12.

Perhaps a more significant question, given his prominence throughout Andor and important role in the early Rebel Alliance, is what happens to Luthen ahead of Rogue One. His absence in the prequel movie, unfortunately, suggests that Andor season 2 may spell bad news for the spymaster. A major reason for this is likely to be the ISB. Andor season 1 already established that the search for Axis is a top priority, and the character's lack of presence in other Star Wars projects suggests that they will ultimately be successful. However, despite this ominous outlook, the fact that the Rebellion only grows in strength is a testament to Luthen's legacy – whatever his eventual fate.

Did The Ferrix Rebels Actually Escape?

Joplin Sibtain as Brasso and Diego Luna as Cassian Andor

Ahead of Cassian and Luthen's dramatic final meeting, the titular protagonist left his friends and fellow freedom fighters on a rickety ship with a potentially dangerous road ahead. Given the Imperial presence on Ferrix and the complexity of their escape route, their successful evacuation is by no means guaranteed. However, Bix's meaningful final words to Cassian, that he will find them, suggests that they will make it out. While the role of characters like Bix and Brasso in the Rebellion is unclear, their hopeful and poignant interaction with Cassian suggests that they will probably feature in Andor season 2 after escaping Ferrix.

Where Is K-2SO And When Will He Appear?

K2-SO and Cassian Andor in Star Wars

One of the major mysteries spanning the entirety of Andor season 1 is the location of K-2SO – Cassian's fan-favorite droid companion from Rogue One. While the character was teased in episode 7, with the arrival of several KX-series Imperial droids, the Alan Tudyk-voiced character has yet to feature in person. However, given the chronology of pre-Rogue One Star Wars and Cassian and K-2's origin story, his absence makes sense. As explained in Rogue One, K2 is a reprogrammed Imperial droid, something that would have been impossible for Cassian to do given his Andor journey. As actor Tudyk explained in an interview (via Collider), "I'm going to be in the show. It's just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn't involve K-2SO until later on." As such K-2's Andor season 1 absence makes perfect sense, and audiences can likely look forward to his introduction in Andor season 2.

What Actually Happened To Andy Serkis' Kino Loy?

Andy Serkis as Kino Loy in Andor episode 9

One of Andor's most complex and charismatic characters, Andy Serkis' Kino Loy was a key part of Cassian's escape from the Narkina 5 facility. However, after leading his fellow prisoners out of bondage, audiences were left with the heartbreaking revelation that he wasn't able to make the swim across to freedom. This left Loy in the unenviable position of being unable to leave a prison in which he had just instigated an armed insurrection. Nevertheless, while this would normally spell disaster for any character, there is hope for Loy's future in Andor season 2. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Toby Haynes explained, "I think it's open there with what happens to his storyline. He certainly wasn't killed. So we know that much. And then that's the interesting thing about [creator Tony Gilroy's] writing. If you're not dead, then who knows what's gonna happen to your character. So [his return] could happen." All this makes the prognosis for Loy's future less gloomy than it might appear, with his potential survival on the cards.

Will Mon Mothma Go Ahead With Her Betrothal Plan?

Mon Mothma, Leida Mothma, and Davo Sculdun from Andor

Away from the tense action on Ferrix, Mon Mothma spent the Andor season 1 finale negotiating the complex political web on Coruscant. After her previous meeting with Davo Sculdun, her main concern was whether to agree to her daughter's betrothal in order to escape financial trouble. In showing the first fateful meeting between Leida and Sculdun's son Stekan, Andor left the aftermath of Mothma's plan open-ended. However, there is evidence that Mothma does indeed go ahead with the decision, with disastrous results. For starters, Mothma's enduring status as a key Rebel figure suggests that she does secure the necessary financial backing to continue her clandestine activities. However, the absence of her family from other Star Wars installments indicates that her actions cause a significant rift – with her daughter's betrothal perhaps being the beginning of the end for her family.

Who Else Knows About The Death Star?

Death Star being built in the Andor season 1 finale

The Andor season 1 post-credits scene confirmed that the parts Cassian and his fellow inmates had been working on were indeed, as many had theorized, connected to the legendary Death Star space station. However, the Death Star's appearance in Andor raises several questions around who exactly knows of its existence at this stage in the timeline. Considering that the series' action takes place in 5 BBY, there is a long while before the Rebel Alliance discover the potential galaxy-ending threat. Furthermore, the lack of discussion around the project in the corridors of power at the ISB prove that Death Star plans are, at this stage on a strictly need-to-know basis. It's therefore safe to assume that, aside from a select few, the Death Star remains a closely-guarded secret.

What Happened To Andor's Sister?

Andor's sister appears in the first episode of Andor.

Despite starting off as the major motivating factor for Cassian, the mystery around what happened to his sister remains unanswered. Depressingly, Cassian's adoptive mother Maarva seemed convinced that Kerri is dead, suggesting a sad end to the story. However, the loose end around the Kenari woman from the brothel in Andor episode 1 suggests that there is yet hope for her survival. This is compounded by the fact that Cassian's growing role in the Rebellion will likely see him traverse the galaxy in opposition to the Empire, potentially bringing him into contact with new leads in the hunt for his sister. Therefore, while Andor season 1 provided no concrete answers about Cassian's sister, there remains a possibility that season 2 can address the unanswered question.

What Will Happen To Syril And Dedra?

Syril Karn and Dedra Meero in Andor Episode 9

Syril's intervention to rescue Dedra from an angry mob means that both antagonists can and in all likelihood will play a role in Andor season 2. However, given the failure of the Ferrix operation and Cassian's escape, it's unlikely that the pair's ISB's superiors will look as favorably on their actions – especially given Dedra's advocacy for the Ferrix plan. With both parties personally invested in bringing Cassian to justice, Andor season 2 may well see Syril and Dedra working outside the ISB in order to track him down. Having humiliated both Syril and Dedra over the course of the season, it's highly likely that Cassian will have to contend with the Imperial loyalists again as the story continues.
